Greatest Rock-n-Roll Band in the World?

Should the stones start using this again in their intro? I have to say, every time I hear them announced, I feel a twinge of sadness when the announcer *doesn't* say it. I just got so used to hearing it when i'd play ya-ya's over and over again in high school.

Also, perhaps they could use an echo/delay effect when the announcer introduces them, that would also help it sound more like ya-ya's.

Except it may not be true anymore. I think someone like the Foo Fighters are more dynamic. Come on, they're a lot younger. Charlie understands that he can't wallop the drums like he used to.

The guy under the stage actually does the wallop parts and it is HE who can't wallop like he used to. Charlie can still wallop with the best of them as this recent video of his jazz band can attest...

Probably Chuck decided that there is no need to say it in the intro, because everybody already knows it.

They are and continue to be the "Greatest R n R Band in the world". The Stones still rule supreme. No band will ever be able to touch them. Never ever.

The Greatest doesn't have to always be the best. At the end of his career Ali was clearly no longer the best, but he still was the Greatest, by a country mile. Still is. Same with the Stones. Though on a hot night in the flesh, they are still able to go out and play amazing shows. For a bunch of old guys, Rolling Stones are still capable of going out and ripping the joint so good, any other band in the world would be hesitant, to follow them. Are they always on top of their game? No, but the ability to amaze and surprise still exists with this band.

It does feel that way.
No bands excite me any more.
The Stones still have more energy and excitement than all the young pretenders put together..

They don't need that intro Turner, just to hear the announcer say..."The Rolling Stones" says it all.

"The Rolling Stones!"

- and if you don't already know they're the greatest, you soon will.

Comparisons with present day bands like the Foo Fighters are difficult because the Stones are not and never have been simply a Rock band: Rock is a child of rock'n'roll but they are different animals. Don't ask me to define the difference: the nearest I can get is that rock'n'roll makes me want to dance, and Rock doesn't.

While no one asked you, I think you pretty much summed it up quite nicely.

You canĀ“t compare the Stones with another band, they are one of a kind, absolutely unique. And still blooming.

I think this whole "greatest rock and roll band in the world" thing is just complete nonsense. How the hell do you even judge something like that? It was just a clever marketing ploy that they used and it worked.

I agree but I also wonder if this is our age / generational thing. Though my 17 year old son has very similar feelings.
