I enjoy reading all these SACD vs DSD, SHM-SACD, etc. stories.
In 2002, coming to the USA in Boston to see the Rolling Stones in three different locations, I bought all the Stones' SACDs at once (50% cheaper than in Europe!).
Back home I made inquiries on SACD players. Quite expensive at that time.

Then I "experimented" with putting the SACDs in my Pioneer (DV-525) ... DVD player (I have great 3way speakers along). The sound was fantastic! I dare to say much, much better than the original vinyl records.
I went back to the record store with several SACDs and had them played on one of those costly SACD players. Great sound, but .... no way better than what I had heard on my DVD player.
The people in the store told me it was impossible to play a SACD on a DVD player and didn't want to believe me. Well, what to say? Obviously I never bothered being a SACD player.

The 2002 ABKCO SACDs are hybrid discs with two layers - one SACD layer (DSD, 2.8MHz/1bit) and one CD layer (PCM, 44.1kHz/16bit). The SACD layer plays indeed only on SACD-Players or SACD-capable Multidisc-Players while the CD layer can be played like a normal Compact Disc. Most DVD-Players also play CDs. Without an SACD-Player you'll hear the music only in CD-Quality.
