HMS, I agree with much of what you say above, and 'Doom and Gloom' does possess a modernity and a recognizability, but I don't feel it works well live, or at least not in a stadium setting.

'One More Shot' may be a better alternative, if one of the two is to be included, but again, it is not well suited to a stadium performance.

I think it is rather ignorant to say that the set list is shitty in South America. Why? Because it makes no sense. Secondly, it is an offense to the 99% of the crowd who haven't seen the Stones in 10 years, and also to the 98% of the crowd who have never ever seen the Stones at all.

It is TEN years since the Stones played Argentina. Most of the fans in the crowd NEVER saw any Stones show. It is like we should cancel Carneval and have something else, because it is carneval every year. Or may be replace Mick because he is at every show...

Anyway, next up in MONTEVIDEO. If someone complain about the set list in MONTEVIDEO I will personally send Dirty Harry, because they never ever performed in Montevideo. Same goes for many other places on this tour. Porte Alegre, Lima, Bogota, not every day they visit Sao Paulo and so on ...

South America is not New York or London. May be you have seen the Stones 100 times, may be you are spoiled and see them every 2-3 years in your big town so central, but most fans in Latin America never had the chance. They want the dream set list, and the dream set list - I will print it right here, it is more or less this, their most popular songs:

Start Me Up
It's Only Rock'n Roll
Let's Spend The Night Together
Tumbling Dice
Out Of Control
She's A Rainbow (by request)
Wild Horses
Paint It Black
Honky Tonk Women
--- Band introductions
You Got The Silver (Keith)
Happy (Keith)
Midnight Rambler
Miss You
Gimme Shelter
Jumping Jack Flash
Sympathy For The Devil
Brown Sugar
--- Band off stage
You Can't Always Get What You Want (with choir)
Satisfaction

Something like that... This is the Chile set list by the way. Pretty solid...

For set list discussions please use this thread for that. Please DO NOT pollute all other threads with set list frustrations. Sure you may comment, if you went to the show, but if you are bored in big city NYC or London or LA or whatever, and you have seen the Stones a ZILLION times, why bother us about your dream set list, which probably is including:

Gomper
Lady Jane
Melody
It's Not Easy
...

By the way Dirty Harry will take care of the set list noise in the regular live pages, inspired by the security measures in Latin America. If you see an offensive troll entry feel free to use the link "Report This Message"...

This is an adequate first step but I think we can go much further in reporting on each other. Allow me to make some suggestions:

—People who have the chutzpah to suggest that the band have "lost a step" after all these years. How dare they? Don't they know we are lucky that the boys are still alive and kicking and making fans happy all over the world?

—People who whine about/pre-judge a possible new Stones album. OF COURSE any such album will be magnificent and anyone who thinks otherwise should be reported immediately.

—People who believe there is any merit at all to "Mick's demos." Please. Exhibit 1: CROSSEYED HEART has proven once and for all that we must FREE KEITH in order to allow him to exert his influence on the band's musical direction.

—People who refuse to acknowledge that the Ole Tour is quite simply the best Stones tour since No Security.

—Mick Taylor. My god, get over it! He quit the band, after all. I think we can all agree people who harp on this overrated bluesman (?) should be reported on and put out of their misery asap.

This is not meant to be a comprehensive list. I'm sure there are many other annoying points of view that could be effectively weeded out in order to make IORR a more pleasant environment. After all, isn't that what we all really want?

Poor, poor pitiful me! I complained for the umpteenth time. I even said that the Stones are crap today to the blind followers. You know what? They didn't listen! Bafflingly, they didn't have the cape and throne ready for me. I didn't get a medal. In a free world I would have expected more than this for constantly telling 10.000 other fans here on IORR that what they invest a lot of time, money and love in is utter crap.

Some day I'll get the recognition I deserve, and turn them my way, though...

We often fall into the trap of set list moaning. Reading about a gem like "She's a Rainbow" been played is a big deal for someone who couldn't make it to Sth America and it's easy to get jaded about set lists.I often feel the need to vent about YGMR etc etc , but the reality is that they are giving the audience what they want.

I'm seeing at least a couple of major artists this year and would be disappointed if they didn't play their best material smiling smiley

We don't know that. What we do know is that they are giving the public what they, themeselves, want to play.

The Stones are The Stones no matter what they play. However, when Mick sees that blind stare in their eyes, he knows something is wrong. But why always these dark songs from the late 60s? After the somewhat unfocused "Satanic.." they seemed to find their formula anew, but darker, harder.

I do not normally complain about the set lists but it appears we may be down to an 18 song standard set list. This is an unfortunate development. Good day to you all.

What's o bad about Lady Jane? At least we know they can play it, and it is one of the great songs from the 1960s.

It makes a difference if I say all the setlists are shit or if I suggest some rarities like they did on previous tours, Therefore I cannot fully agree with you because I am strongly convinced that the Stones read this board and actually got some ideas from there. They would be just foolish not to read IORR!

Here is my 'pollution' (and no, I will not see a Show in South America):

I really miss one obscure song in the show, only one.

Remember 1981 when they did Time is on my side? Or 2012 when they did Lady Jane?

Magic.

No 'classic' stelist moning here, but moaning anyway.

I'm saddly disapointed by the fact that the Rolling Stones don't play even one song of David Bowie in their new Olé Tour 2016.
Why such a thing !!

Which song of theirs would you have them drop to make space for which one of Bowies?

They could drop Sympathy For the Devil and play anything.

Rebel Rebel an obvious choice. Would have been historic.

I think Rebel Rebel is made for them and they could do a fantastic job on it. But Mick and David hadn't been so close lately and i believe Mick said in a recent interview that he hadn't seen him in over 10 years.

I am a huge Bowie fan, but don't expect, nor even want them to do a song by him. Its apples and organes and I don't need a fruit salad at a Stones show.

Its not the kind of thing the Stones would do. Mick probably would, and its probably Keith that wouldn't, but they're such a band I wouldn't even expect to do that.

Having said, he's outright said certain songs on Stones songs. They could kill Rebel Rebel, and I believe Bowie said Diamond Dogs was meant to be in the Stones vein.

Also, you can't ignore LSTNT, which I wouldn't expect them to do his version, but they could at least acknowledge that on this tour. Say something like, I don't know, "Bowie did a cover of this next song, and I think its the greatest cover song anyone has ever done." Did too much of me leak into that lol? But seriously, they could use that song as a way to just have Mick say a few words about the guy.

What association has Bowie had with the Stones? Non. just a single dome with Mick. As far as music goes Glenn Frey had more in common.
