Would anybody like to drop Midnight Rambler and add 3 songs in it's place?

Yes, because contrary to what most people say here, I don't like how they play it last couple of years, Jagger has made of this song, what once sounnded mean and dangerous, a sing a long song version of it, especially when he's singing "YO! YO! YO!" Realy? This is about the Boston strangler for Christ sake!

Start me Up. It is a weak song that the Stones can't play well anyway.

Take IORR and TD and rotate them with 3 to 4 songs so that they are not played at every show. (ADTL, Ain't to Proud, New Song, Star Star, So Young, Little Queenie, etc.)

The safety net is pretty large. The window in which they can replace songs is narrow. Let's say 2-3 songs. The rest is on autopilot.
As I said earlier: After song number 8 everything is written in stone. Like it or leave it.

I'll ageee with You Got me Rocking. But the one song that I always hope doesn't appear in the setlist..Like a Rolling Stone. Love Dylan but that one is SO over done and over covered. Shattered has never worked live for me either. Songs I've never gotten live and would love to hear: Dead Flowers, Respectable, Some Girls and Undercover of the Night.

Haha, I have been at one concert in 2017 and one another in 2018
the rarity I got in zurich 2017 was - like a rolling stone
the rarity I got in stuttgart 2018 was - like a rolling stone

how stupid is this? I thought, Chuck got his smart book, to avoid doing the same setlist twice in countries nearby...

Start me Up. Always hated it. Status Quoesque riff and naff lyrics.

I will still be singing along with it in New Jersey though.

IORR and TD for me. IORR doesn't live up to the album and TD is very by the books these days to me--love when they used to do an extended jam/breakdown at the end of the song but now it's pretty formulaic. I personally don't love Miss You but know most of the people who are casual fans do, and I try to take my friends or family to the shows I go to since they haven't seen the Stones before. So it works for them.

I love start me up as a song even though I recognize that it's not what it once was live. Gotta keep it in, just don't open with it too often anymore (Keith!). I suppose I wouldn't be as indifferent to TD and IORR as much if it weren't for the fact that they are almost ALWAYS back to back right at the beginning of the show. Too predictable. If they would move them around or separate them more often I wouldn't be as over them.

I for one would love to see You Got Me Rocking more often, but that's because I'm younger and never got to see it back in the day--think it's a song that (usually) sounds better live. Those 94/95 versions rock hard.

Of course, there's plenty of songs I wish they would play more often, (monkey man, can't you hear me knocking, etc) but that's for a different thread smiling smiley

IORR, the song has never worked well live in my opinion, not even in 1975. The only time live it captured the groove from the studio version was when the Foo fighters backed
Mick on SNL.

I haven't seen the Stones since 2005, so I'm psyched either way...

...but I think I'd have to throw my hat in with IORR. It's nothing but a pile of lyrical cliches and half-baked Chuck Berryisms, and Keith doesn't have the dexterity or ferocity to do the licks justice anymore.

A better option for their stale setlist would be pick 1 to keep and drop the rest.
So many of their songs are tired and the whole setlist needs a major shakeup.

You know, it's weird...I saw the Stones 5 times on the Licks tour, and had a BLAST every show. I really binged on them over a 4-5 month stretch (Boston opening night, Hartford, the Meadowlands, Boston again, the HBO show at MSG).

Cut to 2 years later...I go to see them on ABB tour in East Hartford...had good tickets, and I was...dare I say...bored. The show itself was great. This was pre head-injury, so Keith was still playing well. The stage was amazing, but every song they played felt so perfunctory and by-the-numbers.

I felt kinda wistful at the end. After 14 years I think I'm ready to have a blast again.

Obviously, it’s SO easy for anybody here to pick ten or more songs you don’t wanna hear at their gig again. What’s truly difficult is, to narrow them down to just ONE song. Let me try...
Satisfaction, YCAGWW, IORR, Miss You, You Got Me Rocking...all the usual suspects and warhorses, the list goes on. However, at the end of the day Like A Rolling Stone wins (or loses) for me. As the original Dylan song is so iconic, their cover never convinced me that they made it their own. There is a feeling more than “played to death, boring as hell” whenever they play it live.

As to IORR...I’d rather they throw away the all too familiar Chuck Berry style, go back to the studio version, i.e. middle tempo and loose, even laid back, Mick strumming acoustic guitar on stage, that would be refreshing — the “groove” version, to borrow Ket’s word above. Paradoxically enough, despite the title, the vibe felt from the original track is not necessarily rock ‘n’ roll.

Like a Rolling Stone would not be missed by me as well.

As for a Stones original though, I'd have to go with Start Me Up.

Devil with the current sampled conga track and bombastic GNR arrangement.

C

With you on the conga track, and someone also mentioned Micks woo hoping, but I’m definitely onboard with the current arrangement, it kicks in nicely at the chorus’s. Hadn’t even thought about the GnR reference but once you said it, it fits perfectly. It also adds a bit of the sinister to the affair, a touch of the Stones of yore perhaps...

the bloated version of "miss you". still love the song but would prefer a tighter, shorter version.
