They should really drop some songs from the setlist. IORR and Gimme Shelter does not swing one bit anymore. I would like to hear some old covers like I Can't turn you loose and Route 66, those would probably sound good.

I was talking with someone yesterday and he mentioned how BRUCE and the E Street Band did damn near 4 HOUR SHOWS twice last week and rarities up the yazzou .That's a SHOW and rare deep cuts ,killer .You really get your money's worth with the BOSS .

Using that logic then the Stones show would be considered a rip off?

Impossible. Bruce doesn't use small factories for his stages.

The Rolling Stones app is asking for ideas regarding the Desert Trip show set-list:

Anything reminiscing this will be a winner:

Satisfaction
All Down The Line
Tumbling Dice
Let's Spend The Night Together
She's So Cold
Worried About You
She's A Rainbow
Live With Me
Can't You Hear Me Knocking
Little T & A
You Got The Silver
It's Only Rock N Roll
Paint It Black
Monkey Man
When The Whip Comes Down
Rough Justice
You Got Me Rocking
You Can't Always Get What You Want
ENCORE
Brown Sugar
Jumping Jack Flash

Re: The Rolling Stones set list discussions

More like this, I presume:

Start Me Up
It's Only Rock'N'Roll
You Got Me Rocking
Tumbling Dice
Wild Horses
Doom And Gloom
Bitch
Out Of Control
Honky Tonk Women
Happy
You Got The Silver
Midnight Rambler
Miss You
Gimmie Shelter
Jumping Jack Flash
Sympathy For The Devil
Brown Sugar
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Satisfaction

I agree plus it's a 19 song setlist , length counts ( usually around 2-2:10 long)

It will be the usual setlist. The only question is do they start with JJF or with Start Me Up. I don´t expect any songs from Dirty Work. Sigh. So it would be a very nice surprise if they at least would do Harlem Shuffle. Winning Ugly would be a dream come true.

You're right. How about a proper rating: it's almost as bad as Streets Of Love, Following The River, Sweet Neo Con, Winning Ugly and, oh, Rock And A Hard Place.

There, now it's appropriately rated: as garbage.

For once you have the same expectations as true Stones fans do - no songs from their worst album.

Congratulations.

Oh but then you ruin it by lamenting that if they played one of their worst songs ever it would be "a dream come true".

As a Dancefloor-track Back To Zero works very well. It´s funky, it´s groovy and it has some very interesting changes. It´s in the same legue with Tie You Up & Feel On Baby. And it´s better by far than Suck On The Jugular or Sexdrive, although both songs aren´t bad either. If every Stones-album contains a hidden gem, then Back To Zero is DW´s hidden gem: highly underrated and not appropriately appreciated.

Enough with "You Got the Silver". It was nice but now it has just about had it's time.

I would like to hear maybe four of them but, what about something different for a change ?? At least 2 songs which haven't been performed in the past couple of decades.

Didn´t Chuck recently promised "some surprises" for the desert-gig? I think it´s going to be Bitch. Angie probably.

There's only one hidden gem on DW and it's track 11, which involves only piano.

Suck On The Jugular is miles above Back To Zero.

Those are not "some surprises". It means absolutely nothing. It will be the same 1965-1981 set list.

London Records has it as Gimme.

Decca Records has it as Gimmie.

Worldwide it seems to be Gimme.

But Jumping Jack Flash? That's as bad as Jig Saw Puzzle, Tumblin' Dice and Street Fightin' Man!!!!!!!!!!

What do you expect from a bunch of guys in their 70s? Do you expect them to bring a whole new setlist filled with songs like ''The Lantern'', ''Fingerprint File'' and ''Casino Boogie''?

They could hardly make a simple three chord blues song like Silver Train sound recognizable in 2014. The most we can expect from them now is some non-warhorses within their reach rehearsed the last couple of years.

If there is going to be something "special" at Coachella it will most likely be one or two songs.

What would they do? The only way to do something "special" would be to play something they've never played or not played since the 1970s or early 80s:

Dance Little Sister
Hot Stuff
Hey Negrita
Lies - but they'd slow this one down so much it would be as bad as Respectable
Neighbors - listen to the version on LICKS LIVE and, well, it's as bad as Respectable
Hang Fire
Casino Boogie
Turd On The Run
Coming Down Again
Summer Romance
Tie You Up - oops. This is post-1981.

Coming Down Again would be great. It's may favorite Keith song and I'm surprised he's never done it. Have they ever done Casino Boogie live?

"Play With Fire" , "Almost Hear You Sigh" ??

"Time is on My Side" has only been performed at ONE concert since 1982 !!

Anyway, the Tokyo 2014 "Silver Train" (despite Watts being a little bit off) was more recognizable to the studio version than many recent versions of warhorses like "Miss You" , "IORR" , "Start Me Up" and "Tumbling Dice" were to their studio versions.

Somehow I can't see 70-something Keith Richards croaking out Little T&A anymore. It worked in 1981 when he was young and wild. In 2006 it was an embarrassment.

It is surprising that Keith hasn't pulled that one out. His playing All About You on the BRIDGES tour was so out of left field it blew my mind. I'm glad he did because it was sweet. Coming Down Again would be similar I bet.

Casino Boogie, from all that I've ever seen, has not been done live. They did Torn And Frayed and Ventilator Blues the first show of the 1972 tour and never again (they did Sweet Black Angel in Texas at the first of two shows, clearly out of their minds). Probably because they're too slow and they seemed to be going very fast at that time and they already had 2 slow songs in the set.

If the Stones talk about doing "something special" they most likely mean they´re going to play Bitch and Emotional Rescue. Do not expect too much.

In 2006, it was sad. Look at the SAL version. Keith barely plays the main riff and the horns make it so cheesy...and like I said, a song like that is suited for a young rocker who'd still sexy. At the age he is now it would be downright creepy, like a dirt old man leering after schoolgirls. I also can never imagine a bunch of 70-something guys doing "Starf&%#er" anymore...much as I like the tune.
