Okay, sorry for being repetitive. I'm not going to repeat that message ... at least not for the next ten pages.

What is the point discussing at all? The setlist is the same as the last time. Interesting till about song number eight and from then on the usual suspects. Nothing is going to change that. Nothing.

thumbs up

I love Macca, but his shows are too long for my taste.

Although I don't mind SFM as an opener I think it was used too often since 2018. Why not try something different? SFTD was great in 2017 and LSTNT also worked well in LA. Maybe they should try open with one of these:

The Last Time
Live With Me
Rocks Off
All Down The Line
Happy (with BOTH Mick and Keith singing)
If You Can't Rock Me

It was used often but that was mainly in the US! For me Street Fighting Man is a great opener and I think they will stick with it. We may get something different in one of the London shows...

Maybe not the best idea for an opener....

Yesterday's version I didn't recognize before Mick Jagger started singing.

Fans are overexcited by Out Of Time.

In all honesty, I don’t think the setlist as a whole is refreshing. Just a minor change. Business as usual.

It's about time. It only took them 60 years to figure it out. It's been sitting on the shelf with a foot of dust on it. Maybe if the band listened to their fans at IORR once and awhile, they'd actually develop a magnificent setlist.

What about "Down the Road Apiece" in the setlist?
Posted by: RobertJohnson ()
Date: June 6, 2022 13:57

It's my fav song from the early albums. Unfortunately, it is rarely played. I can only remember the 81 tour.

It's one of my all-time favourites, too. It was probably performed quite regularly in 1965, but you're right, 1981 is the only time it's been performed subsequently; on a mere handful of occasions, too.

Would they dare, though? They could still pull a track like this off; I'm just not sure a stadium is the ideal venue. The B-stage, perhaps?

It was my late father's favourite Stones song. I wanted it played at his funeral, but my mum vetoed it!

It is, for me, unquestionably Keith's very-finest early performance. This, from a time when he was considered the Stones' lead-guitarist and - I think! - would often top readers' polls for 'best guitarist', etc, in the music papers of the day.

LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!!!!!!

A fantastic early track from the Stones

Can't see it making an appearance in the setlist in 2022.

It sounded great in the 60s, and actually in 1981, as well. But I a live version now....eh, that would be difficult.
A while ago (last year?), there was a thread here where many people wished for "Let It Loose" and that they had always wanted to hear it live. That number surely wouldn't work in concert now, and maybe not ever, but in "Let It Loose"'s case, it's not because of the guitars not being able to deliver, but because of many things.
Jagger could probably sing Down The Road Apiece well, even now, but the rest of the band; I think it would simply be too difficult and fast for the others.

Too quick for them nowadays, no? Great track, but slowed down? Nope.

I hadn’t thought of this. Also, I’m wondering how many creative ways Keith will find to butcher the intro.

Was looking into the 2002/2003 stadiums setlist. Current ones way better. Look at his one..

[iorr.org]

If we take a random 2002 stadium setlist I still like it better than the current ones. No Miss You or Paint It Black and a nice b-stage set.

Turner Field 2002:

1. Brown Sugar
2. It's Only Rock'n Roll
3. Start Me Up
4. Don't Stop
5. Tumbling Dice
6. Monkey Man
7. Angie
8. You Can't Always Get What You Want
9. Can't You Hear Me Knocking
10. I Can't Turn You Loose
11. Slipping Away
12. Happy
13. Sympathy For The Devil
14. When the Whip Comes Down (B-stage)
15. Little Red Rooster (B-stage)
16. You Got Me Rocking (B-stage)
17. Gimme Shelter
18. Honkey Tonk Women
19. Street Fighting Man
20. Jumping Jack Flash
21. Midnight Rambler (encore)
22. Satisfaction (encore)

Not playing Miss You for most of the Licks-tour was such a genius decision. They figured people were tired of it after the 90's tours. But now after playing it constantly since 2005 they somehow figure people need to hear it again and again?

Would be nice if they played Bitch this tour...also Monkey Man....and maybe something more "recent" such as Saint of Me or even Rain Fall Down...Under the Radar would be great imo.
Can't think of many others to choose from from the latter era I'd want to hear...maybe go back to the beginning with some blues covers ala Little Red Rooster...I'm a King Bee...I Can't Be Satisfied...
Or maybe some Stones psychedelia...Child of the Moon and Dandelion....and maybe Citadel...so many greats to choose from, and would be nice if they expanded and explored a bit deeper given it's the 60th...

The could've called this tour FILTER.

It's basically the same set list with just a different stage.

Wow.

Is it really celebrating 60 years? More like the last 10.

Well, you know, kudos to they're still going etc yawn yawn yawn.

99% the same set for the last however many years. Saw them in 2019. It was really good, overall, but overall is what they're probably counting on. The newest anything was a glimpse of HONK in the pre-show video roll.

Why even bother to discuss set lists at this point? We all know the formula; they're gonna play the big hits, trot out an oldie (OOT) as a novelty, maybe play one tune of recent vintage like Ghost Town, and hold one spot where they rotate in and out some lesser warhorses like Rocks Off , Monkey Man, etc. And the obligatory vote songs that they probably choose themselves. But it's still cool that they're playing at all. Before you know it they'll be 80. It's amazing Keith and Ronnie are still standing actually.

"Gonna find my way to heaven ..."

We got spoiled with the 40th anniversary great setlists and great venues. I don’t expect these guys to do anything now but give the people a good time and us a surprise or 2 each night throwing in whatever tune, at their ages it’s just about giving the people a good time and they still do it well. Time isn’t our friend here, so enjoy it for what it is. A bunch of old geezers who still sound hot live.

I loved Miss You. Loved. But can they please take the bass out of Darryl's hands for Miss You? I just watched the Madrid performance. He sounds like somebody reading off a page what notes you are supposed to hit. It's supposed to be some kind of tour de force for him, but he just can't cut it. I was hoping Jordan would get him into shape, but it's hopeless.

Last Sunday I attended the Munich gig, coming along with two interesting facts concerning all setlist discussions.

1st: I went there with my 13-year-old son (his first concert ever), who is - and that's amazing - a Beatles fan. Before the show I asked him what songs he'd like to hear that night. He came up with "Paint It Black", "JJFlash", "HTWomen" and "Angie". He did enjoy the show because he knew quite the most numbers ...

2nd: During "Rocks Off" I danced and sang along. The guy before me turned around and said "I guess you're the only person here that knows this song".

For me it's a clear indication that the majority within the audience is expecting the warhorses and knows little about the complete Stones song catalogue. Hence, the band does right in playing their biggest hits to please the crowds. We diehard fans just have to accept that regardless of whether we'd like to hear the "hidden pearls" ...

That's quite the point. I know many people who own some Greatest Hits compilations but no official album ...

I went to their Munich show on sunday. It was my 23rd show since 1982.
Of course they do all the songs, which they do always. It's the Stones being at the age of 75 to 78.
I was happy to hear some tunes, I never heard before and of course Out Of Time was fantastic. 19th NB and Rock's Off, Ruby Tuesday, Ghost Town. I'm happy with that.
And: I enjoy myself watching and listening their show live.
Of course we want to hear as many rarities as possible.
But their catalogue is huge, they are old and still perform great shows.
I better enjoy this instead of complayning about them playing their hits.

In Burl's creek in 2019 the girl (well, she was 45) next to me (first timer) didn't know Street fighting man .....but............she did think it was fantastic....and was grinning from ear to ear at the end, so, as Shakespeare said...."All's well that ends well"..........cool smiley
