Too bad they never tried Paint it Black as an opening song...Would be perfect, I think. .

To me, every Stones show should always include: Tumbling Dice, Street Fighting Man, Brown Sugar, Jumping Jack Flash, Start me Up, Sympathy for the Devil, Honky Tonk Women, Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler, Paint it Black and Satisfaction.

Miss You, IORR and YGAGWYW are also regulars, but they're my least favorite warhorses by a mile. First and latter are stretched out way too much. I always go for a leak and a drink during Miss You and skip those songs on DVD's or live albums.

I could write down a whole list of songs I would like them to hear below, but the chanches are slim of course. Just keep it fresh. When you have recorded over 350 songs, it's such a shame that your setlists are 90% the same every show. But I think it's a little bit too late now. They should have done that in the nineties. But it's never too late to kick out Miss You and YCAGWYW and replace it by CYHMK, Emotional Rescue or my El Mocambo;s favorite: Crackin' up!

They did do paint it black as an opener in fall 2006.

But why? El Mocambo, Paradiso, Club/Arena Licks shows were all fantastic without many of those songs.
This band could actually be interesting again if they didn't play the same 15 songs every tour.

Totaly agree with you, but the majority of the people at Stones concerts will be pretty disappointed if they didn't get to hear Satisfaction or Start me Up, I think.

On the other hand, we hardcore fans are hearing/seeing the same setlists over and over again since 1989 or so.

There has to be a golden mean, right? Thats why I brought the 15 songs down to 10-11. That gives them space to vary 8-9 songs. Satisfaction for everyone, right?

Keep these war horses:

Paint It Black
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Street Fighting Man
Honky Tonk Women
Tumbling Dice
Start Me Up

Drop these:

Miss You
Satisfaction
Sympathy for the Devil
Gimme Shelter
It's Only Rock n' Roll (looks like they have already been doing this in the last tour)

Rotate:

Midnight Rambler with Can't You Hear Me Knocking night to night
You Can't Always Get What You Want with Memory Motel, Moonlight Mile, Worried About You, or Let it Loose

Consider Bringing Back into the Rotation (maybe periodically to start if they feel it is not too much of a distraction):

Brown Sugar

Add These to Regular Rotation:

Have You Seen Your Mother Baby... (opener)
Dead Flowers (for some great country)
Rocks Off

Then have some fun filling in the rest of the song line up from night to night!

Hairball, I’d be with you on this but YGMR has been played way more times than either of those songs.

YGMR, 450
Streets of Love, 38
Don’t Stop, 105

So yeah, I’m going to stick with YGMR as the biggest waste of space.

Paint It Black (426)
Angie (258)
Beast of Burden (242)
Ruby Tuesday (179)
Under My Thumb (172)

OK agreed - didn't realize YGMR has hogged up and wasted precious space in the setlist that many times!

People bitching about Brown Sugar being dropped from the setlist —- you’d really rather hear another tired Brown Sugar instead of that smokin’ reboot of 19th Nervous Breakdown?

19th Nervous Breakdown was great. I prefer it over Brown Sugar live.

I lot of hate on this board. Why start a post because you don’t like a song?

Funny, I got the same vibe as well.

But then I had to agree with YGMR. It really only is an average song, not bad but come on, so many better options, it was weird they leaned on it so heavily.

Again, I’m not seeing this person who used the word “hate” —- I can’t think of any Stones song I actually “hate.” Hell, I can’t think of any song in the history of popular music where I’d describe “hating” it. Don’t you love the internet? I make a comment that isn’t really that controversial — that YGMR isn’t a song the Stones should have played live 450 times — and I get labeled a “hater.” It’s a weird world we live in here in 2022.

i understand your point you don't hate ygmr you just don't think it's of a high enough quality to have been played 450 times in 28 years

though as one of those people who wishes they'd play more post 81 songs

i'll admit i get excited to see it or any post 81 song in the setlist of shows over the last ten years

along with slipping away, ooc and sad sad sad

so out of curiosity if you had to pick a post 81 to replace it with what would you choose?

mine would be too much blood

and the song i'd pick as my least favorite warhorse that they can't seem to not play is paint it black

and don't get me wrong i love the studio version and the handful of live brian era performances

but the version they've been doing since 89 just is not something i enjoy

Aside from what I've read above, yes, You Got Me Rocking.

A song KISS could've come up with. That's how bad it is.

So many better other post-1981 songs they could've played over the years. Personally a couple others from UNDERCOVER, like, as mentioned, Too Much Blood - why not? Tie You Up, All The Way Down.

And plenty others from 1989, 1994, 1997 and 2005 than what they have done.

Mick's attitude was record sales. So in that mindset, anything from SOME GIRLS onward should dominate the set lists.

Band intros.

We knew who Steve Jordan was before his first show. We have known everyone else awhile.

10 minute closing Satisfaction
10 minutes of YCAGWYW

SHORTEN BOTH /(DROP BOTH?)

Drop Sympathy that LOOKS nice, but that Keith no longer shines in.

ADD IN 3 more songs

Same time on stage
21-22 songs

Then they can play a waste of space like YGMR - AND A CLASSIC like Under my Thumb!

Glad you asked, I have a few.

I think Out of Control is probably the best post 81 song they do in concert. It's like the Midnight Rambler for the Vegas Stones.

But there are so many that are criminally "un or under represented".

SLAVE. Seriously, PLAY the damn thing.
Hang Fire. Lovely little ditty.
Tops/Worried About You/Ain't No Use In Crying...ONE OF THEM, please!
Dance - ok, this one's pre-1981, but cut me some slack.
If I Was A Dancer
Too Tough
All The Way Down
Tie You Up (the Pain of Love)
Blinded By Love
Sweethearts Together - why not? The feelgood song of the concert.
Dangerous Beauty - OMG I would die to hear that.
She Saw Me Coming - anthemic.
Under The Radar - well if I can't pick Child of the Moon because it's pre-1981
Doom & Gloom - still sounds good to me.
Plundered My SOul - Why even go to the trouble of releasing it if you're NEVER EVER going to play it live?
No Spare Parts - (see above)
Easy Sleazy - well if they're not going to put out an album, let's see if they can outplay Dave Grohl.

...that's just off the top of my head, I'm quite certain I've missed a lot more.

It was such a relief when they didn't play Paint It Black during Licks, it is not one of my favourites but it is a fun song to play on the guitar. I love it when Keith did his "quiet protest" against YGMR by playing IYCRM before it (switching spots for the songs) at a couple of arena shows in 02-03, I agreed completely.

OPEN up with Satisfaction rather than finish with it obviously. Especially this summer as the tour is called SIXTY so they must open a show with a sixties song and Melbourne 2006 is the last time they did it as a first tune.
