Considering the past year, the current times, the future - age of the band, health, etc., the set list will end with The Last Time, Out of Time, Time Waits For No One, Going Home. As Going Home starts to end, the stadium/arena/theater lights will go dark, there will be a large puff of smoke/fog obscuring the stage, the lights will suddenly blaze back on and the Stones will have disappeared from physical sight. Then, like the projection of the wizard from The Wizard of Oz before Dorothy and gang, images of the Stones will hover over the stage only to gradually fade. One helluva show ending if you think about it.
Thoughts for set list for 2021. But it’s good that we will get any concerts at all. But I like these ideas plus Slave please!!

We know it's gonna be 15 hot rocks*, 2 from keith, ghost town, & 1 interesting one

*more specifically, Start Me Up, Miss You, IORR, TD, Satisfaction, PIB, and at least 7 songs from disc 2 of Hot Rocks, plus 2 other hits.

Street Fighting Man
IORR/LSTNT/You Got Me Rocking
Tumbling Dice
Song Vote - likely to be an upbeat song Mick can work the crowd on: Bitch/Get off My Cloud/Under My Thumb type song
Living in a Ghost Town
Ballad (Angie and Wild Horses on rotate mainly)
YCAGWYW
Paint it Black
Honky Tonk Women

You Got the Silver
Before they Make Me Run

Miss You
Midnight Rambler
Sympathy
Start Me Up
JJ Flash
Brown Sugar

Gimme Shelter
Satisfaction

Occasional nights JJF to open, SFM dropped and an extra song goes in the first half - probably saved for when they have a guest (if any) when songs like Dead Flowers or Beast of Burden will get a run out.

My semi realistic hopes are:

- they keep rotating song 2 between the 3 stated so at least that changes every gig
- ditch the song Vote and just surprise the audience with something in slot 4 - Monkey Man or Out of Control for me as they have more attitude and bite over something like under my thumb.
- they decide to give Wild Horses and Angie a tour off and instead commit to two other ballads - practice them well and just rotate them - Fool to Cry and Ruby Tuesday for example would still be really well known so wouldn't impact the flow any more than Wild Horses or Angie would.

More unrealistic hopes (but things i think they are capable of doing if they tried):

- Keith commits to two other songs - i suspect
You Got the silver is popular as Keith knows it and it's quite short so doesn't clog the setlist up however I think it's due a rotate. I would even settle for a cover - how about a Blues standard he can noodle around on and sing a verse or two.

- they start HTW with one verse and chorus of Country Honk just Keith and Mick then after the chorus the cow bell starts - mick gets the audience clapping Keith puts his electric on and they play HTW as usual- this is an easy win as the hard-core fans get to see Mick and Keith sing a verse and chorus together (that would go down well) and then they still song HTW normally - so no one loses out. In fact it extends the song by 2 mins and so extends a crowd pleaser.

- rotate a couple of big hits - for example: is Tumbling Dice any more well known than Get off My Cloud? Is Street Fighting Man much more popular than The Last Time? Outside of hard-core fans is Midnight Rambler any more loved than Little Red Rooster? I would argue no. And so I think there are a few songs they could rotate at no cost of keeping the audience on board. Would there be an outcry if they played Not Fade Away instead of Let's Spend thr Night Together? No. In 2019, do they actually perform Out of Control better than Sympathy for the Devil? I would say yes, musically it's a better cohesive performance. I understand dropping a couple of these songs might feel a bad choice - why upset a winning formula, but I actually think IORR sounded fresher after a few shows off in 2019, and I think the same could hold for a few other songs.

I don't say any of this with hope or expectation, but it is a slow day at work so i thought I would share anyway(!)

Setlist prediction? Let's see..

1. Street Fighting Man
2. Let's Spend The Night Together
3. Tumbling Dice
4. Living In A Ghost Towm
5. Monkey Man /vote
6. You Can't Always Get
7. Beast Of Burden
8. Play With Fire
9. Sympathy For The Devil
10. Honky Tonk Woman
11. You Got The Silver
12. I Wanna Hold you
13. Miss You
14. Midnight Rambler
15. Paint It Black
16. Start Me Up
17. Jumping Jack Flash
18. Brown Sugar
19. Gimme Shelter
20. Satisfaction

A setlist that would work in a stadium and would be something new without too many rare songs and would be really epic would be more like this:

1. Satisfaction
2. Live With Me
3. Monkey Man
4. Start Me Up
5. Flip The Switch
6. Living In A Ghost Towm
7. Memory Motel
8. Gimme Shelter
9. You Can't Always Get
10. Midnight Rambler
11. All About You
12. Little T&A
13. Beast Of Burden (acoustic b-stage)
14. No Expectations (acoustic b-stage)
15. Sympathy For The Devil
16. Tumbling Dice
17. Paint It Black

I thinking a few more ballads to give Mick, and especially Charlie, a breather.

Ronnie and Keith have been known to take a song (or at least a few moments) off from time to time.

That said, I would like to see a few of the unplayed or extremely rare ones played ("Out Of Time", "I Don't Know Why", "Winter", etc.)

These could be left at home - "Sympathy", YCAGWYW (too long and boring), "Miss You" - even "Rambler" and "Satisfaction"

Elmo ducks for cover........

Yes, but is it one word or two ??

Setlist
or
Set list ?

Re: The Rolling Stones set list discussions

basically the same stuff as performed in 2017-2019 plus two (relative) surprises. One of these will be dropped after the first two or three shows. Maybe 'Ghost Town' plus one Keith song that hasn't been performed in 2017-2019.
Setlist will be pretty static.

Think the first few shows will have 20 songs, then they go down to 19 again? Hope Nashville gets 20 as show number 4.

I’d like to see something different from Keith this time around like little t&a and take it so hard.

Would also be nice to see Can’t you hear me knocking make it into the setlist more frequently.

setlist has been down to 19 songs last time out, only 18 in Quebec City in 2015 as part of a festival.

I think 3 or 4 changes from the standard setlist is the most we can hope for. A pleasant surprise would be if they played a song from the new album in spe (if there is one?).
It would be a disappointment if they just continue where they left in 2019.

Living in a Ghost Town live would be great! A song from the lockdown times

18 in Quebec in 2015 but 22 in Hamburg in 2017. In 2019 they started with 20 but got down to 19 after some shows.

The second hour worked like phenomenal clockwork on the last tour and I can't see it changing. I just hope they rehearse the first hour thoroughly - there were too many luke warm songs early in the set in Manchester 2018- like a comatose 'Shattered' and a version of 'Just Your Fool' that sounded like half-assed Status Quo. Sometimes these lesser played songs look great on paper......

Personally, I'd love to hear All Down the Line - but not a pipe and slippers 3/4 speed version.

No offence intended but do you really think that an acoustic version of Beast of vurden would work in a stadium?

They played Lady Jane back in 2012 in London, and I would like to see that song in the setlist but although they have proven that they can still play it perfectly they obviously don't feel that it would work in a stadium.

I think on a stripped down B-stage it might work, even a song like Play With Fire had it's magic in the 2019 concerts.

I think the 1994+ versions of Beast Of Burden are not as amazing as the 1981/82 version, it lacks that one high note, that I think Ronnie plays during the intro and basically the whole song.

You can hear it very good in this version: [www.youtube.com]

I think they roll out Waiting on a Friend based upon the rerelease of Tattoo You like they did with Sticky Fingers for the zip Code tour.

Outside of that I’m not sure what else beside SMU the would play, maybe Black Limo and maybe Keith could do Little T&A

I think most of setlist will remain as us from 2019. Wouldn’t Slave be fun?!!

Re: The Rolling Stones set list discussions

Given the 2019 set list... and then throwing in a couple of, say, hopefully realistic wish songs...

Jumpin' Jack Flash
Let's Spend The Night Together
Tumbling Dice
Criss Cross Mind or Scarlet or Star Star
Dancing With Mr D
You Can't Always Get What You Want (beer break)
Waiting On A Friend
No Use In Crying or Tops or Heaven etc or new single from TATTOO YOU reissue
Sympathy For The Devil (unwished like shit but, why not Jigsaw Puzzle!!!!!!! More beer, or maybe some pretzels)
Honky Tonk Women (bathroom break)

Coming Down Again
Little T&A

Living In A Ghost Town
Miss You (go take a nap, come back)
Paint It Black
Start Me Up
Brown Sugar (partial nap)
Gimme Shelter
Satisfaction (leave after the opening riffage unless one wants to hear Keith play his three note wonder)

Slave!!!

I make a sincere request to Mick, Keith, Ronnie etc….PLEASE play Slave on the upcoming US tour! Lets create a thread for Slave that cannot be ignored!
