Blasphemy, I know...smoking smiley
...but I´d like to throw in a few songs that are less than 100 years old:

Jump On Top Of Me
Sparks Will Fly
Flip The Switch
Rough Justice
Had It With You

...and they should not use the b-stage for boring acoustic sets.

Maybe because the song isn't about love?

You don't think Mick wants to sing that one on stage??!

I don't know, TD76. But supposedly the song is about him. Written by The Biff H*tler Duo.

It is strange that they have not paid tribute to the great man, who influenced them so much, since his passing.

I've always loved how they've played Chuck Berry songs. That's probably the purist true sound of The Rolling Stones. It's beyond awesome.

Mercy Mercy - or 2120 South Michigan Avenue

Discuss ...

If they play either of these (or heaven forbid - both) and it/they subsequently emerge(s) on album/CD/DVD, (we know they record everything and film most things) I will play that DVD and/or listen to that album/CD every single day of my life - probably several times a day in fact - until I expire ...

Well, one of my wishes came true on 3rd July 2019 !!

Thank you the Rolling Stones !! cool smiley grinning smiley hot smiley

A short note: They will probably have played close to 50 different songs before the tour is over. Still 3/4 of the setlist is static.

Wild Horses in concert/ Set list thoughts

Why do the Stones not play this more often as the “slow down” ballad in concert? I understand Angie hit #1 in 1973 and Wild Horses did not top the charts, but I would think most music fans would agree Wild Horses is one of the best and most recognizable Stones songs in their canon. Is it too difficult to do live because they choose not to perform it acoustically? I mean if it comes up in a fan vote between She’s So Cold, Out of Control and You Got Me Rocking, should there even be a vote?

I do understand there are only 20 slots to fill and 13 are pretty much accounted for, that’s why I question why Mercy, Mercy would be there. Don’t use the “remembering Brian Jones” silliness. It’s my understanding Mick never mentioned him. If they wanted to celebrate Brian they could have played I’m yours, She’s Mine.

I know these 6 songs have to be there:
JJF, Satisfaction,Miss You, Honky Tonk Women, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar

I know these 7 songs people think have to be there and have been for decades:
Gimme Shelter, SFTD, YCAGWYW, Tumbling Dice, IORR, Keith 1 and Keith 2

So couldn’t they get into could get in an A/B rotation in the setlist?
Or even better an A, B, C, D list of 6 songs that rotate? And then have the final song with the “fan vote” to give a 20 song setlist?

More ranting and questions:
I mean really how enjoyable is Paint it Black? Seems so boring in concert. Get Off of My Cloud was just as big a hit in the same period.
Should they really play any song post-1981 anyways?
I hear Beast of Burden all the time on classic rock stations, seems to me it should be a war horse too.
Should the Stones ever play “cover songs” at all? That’s a big nope including Like a Rolling Stone (they owned it in 1995, but it was a novelty).
Final rant... love Keith and understand Mick needs a break but could they just not do an intermission and use those 2 spots for better choices? If Keith went out with Ronnie and Charlie and no Mick singing, it would suck so why have him sing lead at all? Don’t give me the contractual garbage. Like Frey said to Felder about Hotel California (paraphrasing) we have Don Henley so shut your pie hole and play guitar.

Ok carry on

This will probably get merged into set list discussion thread.

But in short - Mercy Mercy was a song Keith wanted to play real bad!

Wild Horses was played a few times on the 2018 tour, they didn't play Angie then. Now they leave out Wild Horses and play Angie.

Wild Horses is usually played one or two times per 14-date tour at least. It was pretty regulary played since 1999/2003.

If you want my guess, it will probably be played on the B-stage on this tour.

What song would you want to hear on the acoustic set?

My choice would be Lady Jane.

They played in in 2012 and it was wonderful so they'd be able to perform it again.

Yeah that would be awesome but we'll probably never get it since the electric Honky Tonk HAS to be played and there's no room in a 20 song setlist to play a song twice in different versions. Would love to be proved wrong...

Not any of them is really realistic but maybe they will suprise us as they did with Mercy Mercy (yeah I know that they played that at the Chicago soundcheck but still a great suprise)
