Here it is, Sad Sad Sad, from my first Stones gig in Gothenburg back in 1990 (Urban Jungle Tour). The only video material from that gig.

HA HA HA! Nice raunchy note from Keith just before the first chorus!

Sept. 10, 2005
Back at Soldier Field, this time with a top ticket price of $450! For the price, fans get a three-story stage that resembles a futuristic high-rise, with a set list largely made up of songs the band could've drawn up for a 1981 tour: "Start Me Up" to start it off, "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)" to finish and "Brown Sugar," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," "Satisfaction," "Shattered," "You Can't Always Get What You Want," "Bitch," "Ruby Tuesday," "Tumbling Dice" and "Honky Tonk Women" in between.

Jan. 23, 25, 2006
Two more nights, same old songs at the United Center.

People who say the Stones need to play hits because its generally casual fans at show don't really have an argument. The Stones don't play more than 50 percent of what is on Hot Rocks which is their best selling greatest hits album. Songs like Mother's Little Helper, Heart of Stone, Time is on my Side and others would be surprises if they played them live because the Stones play the same hits tour after tour.

Bands with only a few hits like say Little Feat who I saw last week, manage to mix up their set lists night after night.

Disc 2 of HOT ROCKS gets the most play, that's for sure, since... whenever, but especially since 1989 regarding the 'modern' Stones, with disc 1 getting 3 tracks off of it, overall.

So it's no wonder, really. After that it gets thin - Tumbling Dice, Miss You, Start Me Up.

Maybe Angie and Beast Of Burden.

McCartney... great show. Fantastic show. Very interesting.

What we can hope for is:

Gold - A couple of "medium-rare" songs in the first 1/3 of the setlist and...a premiere of a brand new song from the upcoming 2019/20 album.

Silver - As above, without the new song.

Bronze - More or less a copy of the 2018 setlists.

The Joker - a completely new setlist less reliant on warhorses with quite a few surprises!

Since they rehearsed a couple of new (or "new") numbers in Soldier Field these are up for grabs:
Mercy Mercy, Dead Flowers, Sad Sad Sad, Angie, Harlem Shuffle, Out of Control, Ride Em' Down, Under My Thumb.

I wonder which of them will turn up on the premiere setlist tomorrow?

Out of Control has been played quite often since the Zip Code tour.

My guess is the song vote will be: Dead Flowers, Angie, Under My Thumb, Out of Control/Harlem with either OOC or HS being part of the normal set. If this is the case, smart money would be on Under My Thumb which also won in '97 for opening night at Soldier.

Re: The Rolling Stones set list discussions

I hope that it's not "You Got the Silver" and "Before They Make Me Run" / "Happy" for the entire tour.

The Richards lead vocal songs used to get rotated around, providing variety in the set list before the 50th anniversary tour.

Since then, the only surprise has been "Can't Be Seen" ..... which would be nice to see in there again with maybe "Learning the Game" or a Bridges to Babylon Richards lead vocal song.

Well eventually the B-stage is back now as seen in pcitures in the official Chicago thread so we might get a different set list.

The B-stage kind of explains Mercy Mercy and the deeper cuts!!

I hope there is no song vote anymore

If there is a song vote my guess is it will be up in a few hours today. If today comes and goes with no song vote, perhaps it has been retired. I've always been in the camp where the song vote isn't real anyway. The boys just play the one they want.

Again, there is NO REASON to rehearse so many great GEMS and not PLAY at least 6 of them...no excuse....they will NOT lose the audience and tough crap for those who come to hear only War horses!
Here's my Dream Set List, very conservation and realistic for their awesome abilities!
1. Jumpin Jack Flash---Great opener!
2. Ruby Tuesday
3.Love In Vain
4.One Hit To The Body
5.Sway...YES, BV, I agree!
6.Worried About You
7.Paint It Black
8.Blue Turns To Grey
9.I Got The Blues
10. Commit A Crime
11.Shine A Light
12.As Tears Go By
13.Dance Part 1
14.Wild Horses
15.That's How Strong My Love Is
16.Monkey Man
17.Gimme Shelter
18.Moonlight Mile
19.Keith- Can't Be Seen
20.Little T & A or Thru & Thru
21.Dandelion
22.Let's Spend The Night Together
23.Finale- Brown Sugar
If they were feeling that they had to play SATISFACTION, it can be the second encore. No reason they can't play 24 songs with a catalog here to the moon! I can live without the long You Can't Always Get, and MISS YOU! Oh, PLEASE SKIP MISS YOU!
Thank you! P.S KEITH...can you play " THIS PLACE IS EMPTY" in Foxboro!??

Thanks. Voted for "Whip" but I know the result of course (OOC). When you vote you will stand a chance of winning a pit-ticket for the Miami show though. So vote anyway!

Zero chance Respectable gets played. 25% chance Whip gets played. 25% chance YGMR gets played. 50% chance for OOC...which is basically a war horse from '15 on.

I would take Harlem or OOC over Miss You any day

OOC has been played at the first two shows of the no filter tours '17/'18, the following 26 shows it has been dropped... hardly a war horse...
Great song,by the way...

I agree,it’s a fantastic song that was completely destroyed on Voodoo Lounge, this happens when you have an idiot producing your records.
Live it has more in common with the early raw versions which is probably why people like it.

I just watched one of my TV shows called Animal Kingdom with Ellen Barkin , season 4 Episode 2 they ended it with All down the line. Gave it a very nice vibe and me the goosebumps. Seen it performed many times live and never heard a bad version so I hope they mix this into the upcoming setlist.

I didn't know what to do with Brown Sugar, Stonesfan 2146. I haven't seen it listed on the rehearsals page.
But maybe it will turn up in its usual place? I can't see them skipping it. That would be a revolution...
