I was fortunate enough to see them play Hand of Fate and Heart of Stone back in 2002 and would love to see them play those again

Flip The Switch must be a thrill live, such a great drum beat and riff at the beginning. I could imagine it as an opener.

When I saw them play it inbut98, it wasn't in your face, as it is on b2b. It sounded like they were holding back the energy level just a bit because there were two hours left in the show.

A huge part of the problem with people wishing they'd play whatever is their ability and lack therefor - all one has to do is listen to Jumpin' Jack Flash from 1989 onward, She's So Cold and She Was Hot from 2005 onward, Rocks Off from 2002 onward. SFTD from 1989 onward. SMU from 1994 onward... all really bad.

Yet they can play Midnight Rambler, Monkey Man, Street Fighting Man, Tumbling Dice, Paint It Black and a few others pretty damn good.

I don't agree there. "Rocks Off" was better in January of 2006 (Boston and N.Y.C. Madison Square Garden) than it often was in 1995 and much better than it was in 1975. Maybe not better than it was in the early '70's.

"Rocks Off" was usually good in 2002 and 2003 as well EXCEPT FOR the one time when they were recording it for official release at Twickenham.

"She Was Hot" usually sounded great live. I remember many positive reviews from concert-goers.

"She's So Cold" has been hit or miss since it returned to their live set in 2005 but, there have been good performances of the song.

"Jumping Jack Flash" was great from 1997 to 2003. Even some good ones in South America on the 2006 leg of the tour.

"Tumbling Dice" very often sounds a bit off since after 1998. Some horrible "Tumbling Dice" versions were performed in 2005.
I gotta agree with ya on TD,it was perfect on B2B vhs/DVD,but I'm sure some people may think tempo was too slow, the licks tour show in India was great too what I've seen.

IMHO Dice works best as the first part closer, 9th or 10th song as it was used in 2007 for instance and arena shows during Licks. SMU works best as a starter and Flash as well. Flash sounded great in'99 I think. The two songs I would them to ditch are Miss You and Satisfaction, they just do not work although MY was rather inspirational during the last tour, maybe the stage show helped during that particular number?

There has been hundreds probably thousands of posts and comments regarding the Rolling Stones set list. They are posted everywhere, in any thread, live reports etc. It is like salt and pepper, you find it everywhere.

Don't we trust the band? Do we expect them to take our advices? Will Keith replace B4 and Happy just because we say so? Will they start playing 30 songs for 3 hours just because we say so? Or will they go on as they have done the past 53 years?

There might be many older setlist threads. At one point it is time to say the subject is debated to death, but I understand people do want to express their opinion, regardless of Mick and Keith care about what some say.

So here you go. Feel free to comment, and now I have a hook for most of the future set list discussions. And if there are some older ones, separate threads on set lists, feel free to report me and I will merge.

Thanks!

Thanks BV. Making more sense than everybody on the board since day 1. I havent read any of the post on this thread, but from my posting days on Shidoobee i dont need to read any. Basically 3 categories 1) Bitching about the song selection 2) Dream Setlists 3) bitching about the way the particular song is arranged now vs then/on the record.

I believe the they will play what they are comfortable playing/play well. They have been doing this for 60 yrs so they kinda know what they are doing..

The only tour where setlists were a problem for me was a Bigger Bang (Night time is the right time, Back of my Hand, i mean WTF). Now here i am bitching about setlists. grinning smiley

Out of Time would be great but I don't know if they can pull it off live these days.

Also, I never see Heart of Stone in any of the set lists as a 60s selection.

A few times in 2002,mostly in the clubs and theaters. Also performed at the 2002 Oakland arena concert.

But,I agree. This is the type of stuff that they should be playing instead of more cover versions of "Like a Rolling Stone".

At least make the four song "vote" choices all surprise songs. Not ex-semi-warhorses which have fallen victim to the set list being reduced to 19 songs. "Rocks Off" / "Bitch" / "Dead Flowers" / "Respectable" / "All Down the Line" / "Shattered" and all of that stuff should never appear in the song "vote". If they want to play them, they belong in the regular rotating slots .... or these days, slot.

Heart of Stone and other 60s classics in this category would be great. She's Like a Rainbow got a lot of positive response. Hope they'll do some of these.

Not much SFTD at all in the '70's outside of a few times in '75 .... New York and the L.A. Forum. They did perform it regularly in 1970,though.

SFTD not played during the first couple of months of the Voodoo Lounge '94 Tour either.

Don't agree: as long as I get the same songs at every gig I have been since 2013, it's the right of the stones to do so, but its also my damn right to be dissapointed about this fact. Till hyde park 2013 this was very different. I call myself an idiot because I spend so much time and waste money,to get the same warhorses in year by year more decent quality...

Ok now I wanna join too. grinning smiley This may work in a big stadium as well:

1. Paint It Black
2. Star Star
3. Harlem Shuffle
4. Street Fighting Man
5. Satisfaction
6. Some Girls
7. Gimme Shelter
8. Get Off Of My Cloud
9. Going To A Go Go
10. I Got The Blues
11. Everybody Needs Somebody
12. Let Me Go
13. You Got Me Rocking
14. Thru And Thru (Keith)
15. I Wanna Hold You (Keith)
16. Shine A Light (Acustic)
17. Let It Bleed (Acustic)
18. Country Honk (Acustic)
19. Tumbling Dice
20. Jumping Jack Flash
21. Brown Sugar
22. Sympathy For The Devil
23. Oh No Not You Again (Encore)
24. It's Only Rock'n'Roll (Encore)

If they would really use this on a tour, they would probably drop 4-5 songs out of the first half of the set so the final set list would be around 20 songs.
For the acustic set the main stage would be quite dark and Mick and Keith & Ronnie could go to the center stage.

Oh how I love creating those grinning smiley Mick must have a ton of fun smiling smiley
