The Last Time. They could start, with the lights off in the stadium/venue, the original recorded version cranked very loud then have the current band kick in live, loud and tight right after the opening line by as the lights flash on.

I'd LOVE to see "If You Can't Rock Me" What better lyrics than "the bands on stage and it's one of those nights - The drummer thinks he is dynamite" and a big roar for Charlie then :-)

It would be in your face, fun and only semi safe. And of course they could medley into Get off of my cloud :-)

I know the set list topic is like beating a dead horse here but in the event Jagger or one of his assistants read this, consider a new opener. It has become very stale the current opening tunes (JJF, SMU, et al). With all the recorded tunes the Stones have why not change this song? A good suggestion would be "Rip this Joint". Its fast, it would be a surprise and it gives the Stones the opportunity to play an otherwise lost Exile song. "Respectable" would be another excellent song to use as an opener. One cannot smile at the irony everytime this song gets a live airing.

Excellent choices. How about "Down the Road Apiece?"

I have no doubt Mick is on this list.

A cover version of Chuck Berry's "Come On" was the Rolling Stones' first single, released on 7 June 1963.

Why not start there?

Did it receive a release in the U.S.? In ‘63, that is. In North America,,they’re probably better opening with a number that’d be a little more relevant to the American audience. Time Is On My Side, for instance.

I like your idea of a new opener instead of the usual been there, done that, but I would be very surprised and floored to ever hear Rip This Joint (which is one of my favs) as an opening tune at a Stones concert for a couple of reasons: First, that is a very fast tempo number that I can't see the current Stones rendering successfully. It wouldn't do them justice to play it at a slower pace either. Also, I would think that if you opened up with such a manic tune like Rip This Joint, you would have to maintain that type of energy with other hard rockin' tunes throughout the set-list and I do not think the current incarnation of the Stones could handle it. At the majority of concerts I have ever been to, the opener usually sets the tone for the rest of the concert. Just my two cents.

Mick has addressed this setlist issue. (as well as Keith, I think)
Unless we get a club show, it's going to be a warhorse.
Almost all of the attendees will be casual fans of the band.
They want to hear Start Me Up, etc.
With the ticket prices the band can command they have to play well known song as an opener. It's show BUSINESS.
I saw Kiss a few years back. They played a deep setlist with obscure tracks.
I didn't recognize a note until half way through the show.
The Stones look for a huge crowd reaction when they appear on the stage.
An obscure opening number would hamper that.
I'm excited to see them next year.

Thanks, Cooltoplady. That's the only reaction on that thread. Most of the quotes are stupid, or how could suggestions such as "Down The Road Apiece" or "Dandelion" as openers could be taken for serious?
Those people don't have a slight idea on how to create a dynamic setlist for audiences mostly consisting of non-diehard fans. The Stones know what their audiences are expecting and deliver.
