I enjoyed it (both times) and the band looked like they did too!

Stonking version in Cardiff last night, they do it much better than Dylan does.

It’s a show highlight in stadiums! It works really, really well. London hasn’t had it this tour so must be due in Twickenham.

I can understand why people would want another Stones song instead. But I do get a big kick when they play it so I like seeing that its back. Again, I totally understand wanting a great hit or great rarity and this is just wasted space, but I can't not smile singing Like A Rolling Stone with Mick Jagger. As hokey as it is, its a dumb communal feeling thing that I usually wouldn't go for but think works well with them.

Never liked their versions of it, but clearly many do and it's understandable why..."like a Rolling Stone".....yay.
Could be worse songs in the set (like their Beatles Come Together cover), but on the other hand could be better songs as well - it's a conundrum.

Always loved this song live, even more than another crowd favorite "Out Of Control". It's a bit tongue in cheek and they give it The Stones swagger. Until it's a warhorse (likely impossible) I would be happy to have it in the setlist. In regards to the vote song I'm curious what Just My Imagination would sound like today. Hope they get around to that one.

Yeah, I suppose as fans we prefer to hear Stones written music. But a few of these covers are amazing, consider the Chuck Berry tunes?

Maybe they will play some ELO songs... or might play a couple of ELP songs for Chuck

Love it. Great guitar, keith on backing vocals and maybe the greatest song ever. What more do you want?

But I bet you'd be in favor of dropping it if they'd play another cover like... Time Is On My Side.

Just the way they played it on Ed Sullivan.

Re: The Rolling Stones set list discussions

There just shouldn't be enough room in a 19 song set list for a cover version of "Like a Rolling Stone" anymore.

Considering that 1 of the 19 is already a blues cover (which is fine since "Blue and Lonesome" sold well).

And considering that 2 of the 19 are Richards lead vocal songs .... which now leaves JUST 15 original Stones songs with Jagger on lead vocals. Probably 12 of those are warhorses and 2 semi-near-warhorses.

So just one original Stones Jagger lead vocal non-warhorse which is very ridiculous to people who are fans of original Stones albums and the original material on those albums.

Then consider that they have already performed "Like a Rolling Stone" in almost all of these places during the '95 to '03 era and it does not seem like it is the best choice anymore.

The band considered the "Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band of All Time" now seems afraid to play their own material with the exception of a handful of songs.

For tonight's gig at Twickenham, how about a "nugget" like they did with Salt of the Earth in 2003?

Actually, the setlist is very good! If you consider the first 8 songs or so. It's when HTW starts the setlist is graved in stone.
