I saw Metallica with my family a few nights ago and made a few relevant observations:

They have a new album out and the tour is named after the album.

They played an 18 song set.

They have a 'Snake' Pit in the front of their stage filled with contest winners, NOT VIP package-holders. It looked like a blast to be in there.

The entire floor was GA.

They played 5 songs off their new album. Including the first and second songs of the night. All 5 songs came during the first half of the show and were extremely well-received.

James Hetfield polled the crowd and approx 50% of a sold-out Comerica Park was seeing Metallica live for the first time. I saw a ton of young kids.

Metallica is an excellent stadium band and their show was absolutely phenomenal.
They proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that a rock band can, and should, play new songs onstage in 2017.

I hope The Rolling Stones are paying attention to this Metallica tour.
Three or four Blue & Lonesome songs, plus another new one, would be SWEET to see and hear this fall.

What a way for the Stones to open each night with Little Queenie and paying tribute to Chuck Berry....wishfull thinking? I hope the Stones will at least pay tribute to the man which they owe so much!

I do hope they play at least once a Chuck Berry tune to pay tribute. What about Back In The USA with Keith and Ronnie on background vocals thumbs up

Keith could do Sweet little Rock n Roller in his solo spot.

I would like to see Little Queenie or Carol in the main set 5th or 6th number. They should do something to mark his passing

We had Ray Charles and James Brown tributes for full tours in the past. Chuck was up their with Muddy Waters as a main influence. Go Keith Go !

Keith can still play the Chuck Berry riffs quite well so this would go over well...maybe not as an opener, but somewhere intertwined within the setlist.
Might be better appreciated by the casual fans than the blues covers they recently played (which for me were a highlight).

Maybe they'll play IORR. could happen. sure could. thats kinda like a chuck berry song innit? a slow driving one. Chucks had a lot of things; maybe they should look deeper in his catalog and really mess with one of 'em...yeh be nice to see of the old chunka chunka all down the line. Stones Berry versions drove me crazy they were so sharp. A few of them cut the originals imo. hard to do without Johnny Johnson but...
...i know it's ancient history; but Bye Bye Johnny at the 72 shows I saw was such a source of jubilant joy and knowing unity from every corner of that arena...it was thrilling. And M&K worked pointedly together; and it was history even at the time; that's how damn great it was....i mean people lost it it was so good; everyone was screaming and dancing for real; I don't think any of the various NY footage really shows that. I know I was dancing and shouting. A lot of "OH YEAH THATS RIGHT THATS RIGHT DAMN DAMN OH YEAH....OH YEAHHHHHHHH.!!! and some bad words too, like holy truck and stuff like that...

that kinda deal.

could not agree more but the stones are afraid that simple taking chances well beyond them. So sad

Oldies groups playing nostalgia shows don't take chances. The stones now are closer to the beach boys at a county fair than to a Metallica show.

There is one not so slight difference between the Stones and Metallica playing new songs and taking chances. The vast majority of the crowd at a Metallica show are Metallica fans (I was one of them). The vast majority of the crowd at a Stones show these days are people that want to say they were there as a discussion topic with their friends/at work, and/or to say they saw the Stones and/or to buy a t-shirt to wear as a fashion statement. A huge number of those attending current Stones shows (at least in the USA) are at best casual fans that know most of the hits and nothing other than the big hits. If they were to play lesser known tracks or new stuff they would lose the crowd immediately, especially in a large venue and Mick is far too smart to do that. Quite simply, the Stones know who is buying their tickets and that's who they are playing for. It's not for those on the this board that want them to "shake it up." And truthfully, it's hard to blame them for that, especially with sky high prices for tickets.

Well, if here are so many casual fans, why should the band care what they hear as they've already got their money? And whose fault is it that the ticket prices are sky high?
Also, what about true fans and the band themselves? I've been a fan for a very long time but I will not pay rip-off price so hear virtually the same set on every tour.
I've searched the web in vain to find Mick J saying that a show without new songs would be a bore but he did say it.Maybe I've got it on VHS somewhere.

They didn't play it on the first show but on the second. This set list should have been the first show.
