One More Shot as Show Opener?
Posted by: VoodooLounge13 ()

I admit I have become hooked on this tune! And I think it would work great as a show opener. That opening riff reminds me of some of their JJF openings, Keef just peeling off a couple of notes as he walks out and does a kick to the air for Charlie's first drum hit. Actually, Charlie's drumming is quite good on it as well. I think it would make a good one! It's got a good beat and it's a bit a rocker to get the crowd up and going.

Thoughts??

I agree totally!!! It's such a killer tune!!! Classic Stones with great lyrics, this should've been their YGMR for the noughties!! Bring it on!

Play this as the first 5:

1. One More Shot
2. All Down The Line
3. I Go Wild
4. Rocks Off
5. Monkey Man

You're a rag trade girl, You're the queen of porn, You're the easiest lay on the white house lawn!!

It'll be whatever Chuck decides.

No better opener than Jumping Jack Flash.

One More Shot is a lame Crosseyed Heart outtake, not awful bad, but sub-standard. Hope they'll never play it again.

this tour gives them the chance to mix up the set list a bit. add in some extra flavour with revitalising old songs not performed for years and some they have never done live. they should shorten some songs so they can do more than 18 or 19, and cut some of the war horses. i live in hope of this happening.

They forgot to write a bridge for One More Shot (I love I love I love).

Monkey Man is on my top 5 song list, one of the best guitar riffs Keith wrote.

Won't happen unfortunately. Every tour since 2012 has been an opportunity to 'mix up the set list a bit', but they have not done so. In fairness, 50 & Counting wasn't too bad in terms of set list diversity, but since then it has been disappointing.

Jagger's voice cannot cope with more than 18 or 19 songs. It's easier for the band to play the same songs they are familiar with, and gives the new fans what they want to hear.

Hahaha.

Paint it Black would be cool (they did it before) though

Sadly, the set list will be as predictable as winter rain in Seattle.

IMO, they should dump, HTW, Miss You, IORR, TD,Mid. Ramb, YCAGWYW and SFD
and Satisfaction.

Otherwise, the pond will remain stale.

Just as I figured. The tour has only been announced a day or two ago and already people are either complaining about the songs they know they're going to play -- as if they're a new and up and coming group who can play anything and their millions of fans will be delighted -- or making ludicrous suggestions about how they can create an anticlimactic moment for their opening number.

Imagine, in a parallel universe, if the Stones really did take marketing advice from message board fans who get bored if the wind blows. Forget "No Filter" -- call it "No Pleasure". Because that's what would happen if you open a show with something the majority of the audience doesn't know, and drop all the greatest hits they are paying good money to hear.

Do people really believe the casual fan pays hundreds a ticket to be driven to the concession stand or the restroom? Most people don't obsess on message boards 365/24/7 -- they just want to relive the greatness and take home a cherished memory, not sit around for 2 hours in puzzlement and disbelief.

The Stones know where their bread is buttered. The IORR formula for the "ideal" set list is not the formula for success -- it's the formula for going out of business, and fast!

Give it about 3 shows. It will be like the previous 8 years or whatever of touring: 1965-1981.

One just has to check prior setlists from say desert fest 2016 or the Ole tour 2016 , with the exception of 1 or 2 song changes .

The only shows with halfway interesting setlists will be Paris and maybe Hamburg, Zurich and Dusseldorf.

Because Paris is the only town with two or three shows. Because Hamburg is the opening night. Because they played Zurich and Dusseldorf last time around. At least they can't play Worried About You there again ;-) The only rarity in Lucca is probably Angie or Wild Horses if not Streets Of Love.

So with what they're talking about, does anyone wonder if they'll do something truly odd? I started to make a playlist setlist and aside from the expected usual songs of 1965-1981 and 2 from B&L I threw in:

Short And Curlies
She Saw Me Coming
Lowdown
Tie You Up
Summer Romance
Dance Little Sister

I've done those lists and then thought about Mick singing "Out of Time" accompanied almost entirely by Chuck. Then I gave up.

What would interest me? Some of what they rehearsed that would suit them better as a live act at this stage. "ThankYou (Falettinme Bemice Elf)," "Heard It Through the Grapevine," and "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay."

But whatever. Pretty damn good!

Will they play some no filter hits from the no filter glory days? [www.youtube.com]

Take it from Lee Marvin... with no filter... you can light either end... [youtu.be]

Pall Mall gentles the smoke with no filter to ruin the satisfying flavor so friendly to your tastes

Setlist prediction 2017
Posted by: MadMax ()
Date: May 16, 2017 12:36

As I spend my days daydreaming at work I started to work up a setlist which would seem logical considering all the bonanza and the latest 5 years of touring.

As there are packages named SMU, PIB, GS, JJ Flash and BS maybe (and probably) these songs will be included. So an example could be if they play GS as the 2nd song (as in 1973 during the European autumn tour) they will (as Jagger puts it) obviously start with Start Me Up and then move on to PIB as the 3rd song. An interesting discovery I made was the move up in keys if they do this- SMU is in C, GS in Csharp and PIB is in Dm. That would sound pretty cool key-wise....

This is a sort of a prediction for the first couple of numbers:

1. Start Me Up
2. Gimme Shelter
3. Paint It Black
4. All Down The Line/I Go Wild/Hand Of Fate/Sparks Will Fly/One More Shot
5. Hoodoo Blues/Ride 'Em On Down(or a new song from a new possible album??)

Oh God - I really hope they don't start with those songs. Utterly predictable but almost inevitable.

This is the tour where they should go out on a limb and take a few chances - invoke the old magic and throw in more deep cuts. Perhaps take a leaf out of Springsteen's book and don't rely on just 10 or so songs to rotate in their first half section.

They've returned to their blues/r'n'b roots with Blue and Lonesome so it would be easy to dust off some classics from the first three albums. But hey, why not go one further and attempt Jigsaw Puzzle, Salt Of The Earth, Out Of Time, Have You Seen Your Mother Baby - something that would really set pulses racing.

So please dear Rolling Stones - give us all a break and don't begin the show with Start Me Up or Jumping Jack Flash. Since 2013 the set-list has been pretty much static. Rev it up a little and take a few chances.

This would be something...

1. Street Fighting Man
2. Sympathy For The Devil
3. All Down The Line
4. One More Shot
5. Lady Jane
6. Just Your Fool
7. Hoodoo Blues
8. Commit A Crime
9. Country Honk
--- Band introductions
10. How Can I Stop (Keith)
11. Little T+A (Keith)
12. Going Home
13. Hot Stuff
14. Gimmie Shelter
15. Jumpin' Jack Flash
16. Paint It, Black
17. Brown Sugar
--- Band off stage
18. No Expectations
19. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Yeah I agree, but it'd be cool to try to go back to 1973 (as an example) with a twist. But maybe 2 dark songs in the first 3 ain't what Jagger wants to do? One great opener otherwise is Brown Sugar, works real well.

Decisions, decisions... So many great songs and so little time....
