Wiltern Theatre 2002, VERY inspired Mick, and Charlie got that steady groove going on:

compare this to a version from the 81 tour and you'll see why people call this the Vegas Era Stones.

I am not a Vegas fan, but I like this Version very much.

TATTOO YOU tour was horrible. How they thought putting it out as a B-side was even a good idea is mind blowing.

They did it quite well on the VOODOO tour. SOME GIRLS tour was good, at least from what's on LIVE IN TEXAS anyway.

Say what?? loved the tattoo you tour
But yea I loved the 78 versions

I like the 1981/82 versions, especially the edited LSTNT version. But the only live Beast Of Burdens that *does* it are the 1978 performances, for me.
I thought the Miami 1994 renedition was just sad, when hearing it in 1995, and I still do.

Without question on the 78 tour this one really shines bright. The song translates very well to the stage, but it had some real snap on that 1978 tour that has not been achieved since. The 82 tour had some good ones though.

Beast Of Burden was horrible on the 1981-82 tours is what I meant. I just listened to it from that and the VOODOO tour and the VOODOO tour blows it away.

Maybe you've bumped your head...the only thing superior in 94 to the 81 tour was I Go Wild

HA HA! Well, two songs that just happened to be played on both tours, Shattered was superiour to the 1981-82 tour, as was Tumbling Dice.

What's so confusing? It sucked on the 81-82 tours.

You guys are pretty funny sometimes!

Pulled up Texas '78 Beast last night. Winner! That was gooood.

Haven't looked for Voodoo version.

I must say (don't blanch) I did enjoy Mick w/ Ed the redhead kid 2015 Zipcode version- probably because it was so unexpected, and I don't get out much.
And, I am partial to live 2015.

Sorry, afterthought that irritates me: Katy Perry. After she bagged on Jagger in the press, soooo classless and BS,

I'm not watching her sing with him. I think she's a cow now.

^ not 'BS' because I don't think it's possible he made a pass at her (an extremely attractive, 20 something year old half dressed shaking her ass at him... okay, AND? shocking if he made a pass? Huh? Lucky freakin' you, I say),

but that she had to publicly bring it up, mockingly, that she turned him down years later out of the blue statement made for no purpose but to be negative (and Mick had girlfriend at the time, and it was a gig/ job of high status, an opportunity for her)

so yeah, I think she's a cow.

The best in my opinion was '78. I think that it was Houston as found on the box 'Handsome Girls' but the VGP label 'Lacerated' and the Dr. Gig label 'Lacerated at the Cocktail Party' might have the best sound quality of the Houston 1978 "Beast of Burden".

Next is a toss up between '81 (Hartford,Tempe, the b-side from Illinois '81 etc.) and Oakland '94. After that, you have the versions from early on in the 2005 tour (Fenway Park etc.).

'Live Licks' and the 'Sweet Summer Sun' bonus are good but the performance is a little bit better in the versions I mentioned above. No 'Live Licks' sound quality available for the '05 performances, unfortunately.

The mellowed-out 'Stripped Companion' live rehearsal version is alright but,I guess that you have to be in the mood to hear that particular version .... which I seldom am.

Nothing comes even close to the 1978 live versions. Texas 1978 is excellent, but not even the best.

Which shows do you recommend?

Check out the Handsome Girls 4CD (Swingin' Pig, copied by Dandelion) or Georgeous Girls Redux 4CD (Sister Morphine) boots, they have, apart from Texas 1978, three more 1978 live versions of Beast Of Burden in fantastic soundboard quality. Should satisfy all your Beast Of Burden live needs! Available in the StonesVault.

Thanks man!

I am pretty sure that it is the Houston "Beast of Burden" in the great sound / great performance from the boxed sets ..... not Detroit.

The official version is from Fort Worth, which is great also but a notch below Houston.

The fantastic "Tumbling Dice" and "Whip" performances on the boxed sets are from Detroit. There is a Detroit 1978 "Beast of Burden" out there but,I am pretty certain that the best one is from Houston.
