What setlist policy would suit RS the best?

Among various policies acquired by differnet band which one would make you the happiest if adopted by The Rolling Stones?

1. AC/DC - steady set, but only their biggest hits, mostly from the early era, same gimmicks, same stuff night by night, but on the highest performance level.

2. U2 - mostly new stuff, even if it doesn't work live, small selection of the earliest stuff.

3. Bruce Springseen - different setlist every night, lots of surprises, obscure songs from the entire catalogue, some work some not. Sometimes sloppy.

4. Iron Maiden - two different types of tours: when promoting a new album mostly new stuff played and only some biggest older hits, but between tours promoting new album also themed tours recreating old tours with only old stuff.

5. Metallica by request - fans vote the setlist.

Obviously #1 suits the RS best, but if they adopted #3 it would suit me best. smoking smiley

Five shows per area (not necessarily all one city, but close enough to travel to for folks that want to)
At each of four shows the set list would be chosen by a different Stone, and the fifth show would be a "warhorse show".

Imagine Mick's face when he realized the first four shows were jacked with hardcore fans, and the warhorse show was luke warm and full of kids with cell phones.

It wouldn't, though! Plenty of nonkids with cell phones would be there too.
Plus me (sans cell phone) - I'd go to all of 'em!
I love the Rolling Stones

You know.......with sssoul is onto something. I don't think Charlie, or even Leigh is interested in writing a set list, but....... Take the State of Ohio. Cleveland Cincinnati and Columbus. If you did a warhorse show in Cincinnati, a moderate show in Columbus and a more obscure show in Cleveland, they would cover a lot of ground and likely please everyone. Could be done much like the Zip Code tour. Covering a state like Ohio would be reasonable for anyone in WV, a lot of KY, Indy(didn't seem to have the interest to warrant another show), Pittsburgh and more. Do this in 5 or 6 ereas..........sigh, it's fun to dream.

... Who's Leigh? a scarf-me-up version of Keith? :E
Ahh those moments when you look down at your fretboard and all the dots are in the wrong place! eye popping smiley

I would absolutely love to hear all four of the setlists chosen the way I've described,
or even a show with a mini-set of numbers chosen by each Stone.

Ahhhh fat thumbs and a phone....... Keith of course. Oh I'm all in, but Charlie's would be eclectic.......Mick's would be the sa.e as the warhorse set(lol, he picks it), Keith would be solid as hell and Ronnie would pick a stone gem! He's the guy on the inside who has seen it from the outside!

Option 5. That pleases the masses the most that they are playing for. No matter how deep the cuts we want we IORR'rs love our RS but are probably single digits in terms of people attending the shows. Anybody got firm numbers on that?

Thanks,

Mike

Option 3 -- I don't think at this stage of their career they're capable of doing it. The main reason Bruce is my #2 is that the gives the audience credit for knowing all of his material and challenges them.

i would redraw the line as to what is a warhorse and what aint.

paint it black
brown sugar
jj flash

would get played every gig on tour.

sympathy for the devil
gimme shelter
midnight rambler
honky tonk woman
tumbling dice
start me up
miss you
street fightin man
satisfaction

rotated so each song is played 1 in 3 gigs.

the rest of the concerts would be made up of so many other songs, some more rare than others, and some played more frequent than the rest.
