I don't think it is debated at all that MR was played as an encore -it is mentioned by various newspaper reviews of the show, and there's a dozen or so photo's of Mick whipping his belt on the stage with Keith on the SG behind him,

It seems logical the guy(s) who taped the event brought a 90min cassette to the show expecting a 1972/75-minute set.
They must have been kicking themselves watching side-B coming to an end as SFM was being played.
They must have kicked each other as the band started MR in front of them... grinning smiley

Absolutely 100% correct. Rambler is always a highlight if not THE performance of every Stones show it is played. I was at Met Life 2 and had no idea they were going to play it. This was a total surprise.

Suffice to say I totally went wild as did 55,000 others. It was even better in Philly but not the surprise that it was in NJ.
Rambler and JJF are absolute musts at every Stones show. Sympathy with its visuals and Mick’s performance is another must see. The other warhorses can rotate in and out, most first timers want PIB as well.

Best version ever though is Brussels or Roundhouse. Ya Ya’s gets a lot of votes too

All recordings listed are great. But at Dodger Stadium 2006 he was a dancing madman, more than I had ever seen in 30 or so shows back to '72.

I’ve downloaded pretty much every released version of Rambler and while Brussels is amazing I prefer Roundhouse, but honestly-it just has this slightly unpredictable bar room band kind of feel every time. In my humble opinion it’s one of the quintessential Stones songs because I don’t think anyone else really could’ve written it-not as good anyway. It’s a ‘live’ song. There are a few songs in my shuffle that if they come on within a short enough distance from home that I’ll get there before they end, I’ll take a longer route homesmiling smiley

... It’s a ‘live’ song...

Ys it is . It has a structure but also provides the setting for a "Blues jam"

It encapsulates so much of where they came from and what they grew into.
