Never been a fan of this song. A song created to work in a stadium. For a simple singalong. No soul.

And this is one of the very few tunes from the post 81-era that's regulary in the setlists.

Wished they'd kept Undercover,Rough Justice, Oh No Not You Again, Flip The Switch or even Mixed Emotions instead.

NO SECURITY.

Twickenham 2003 (Four Flicks) is a strong contender.

I realy liked the Voodoo Lounge Tour version with Keith kicking with one leg into the air, while playing the riff.
I didn't realy care about this song, thought it was one of the weaker songs of the then new album, until I saw the first images on the Dutch news (in an item about the new Stones tour) and I thought: this is realy awesome!

I thought they did it well at the 12-12-12 benefit. Obviously not the best, but I kind of like it better than No Security. Not a big bootleg guy of this song so I couldn't really pick a better one from a random show.

The version posted from the Zipcode is indeed very nice! Keith does play a very tasty lead and is clearly excited by the song. Cool!

I heard the best version in Indy this year.
They didn't play it.

This thread is a pleasant distraction from my own personal conundrum as I'm trying to decide what's been my best ever poop.

The only version of YGMR I have ever enjoyed is here at 9:40... video: [www.youtube.com]

Keith's bends on this version are spot on. So rare to hear it done right.

I have grown to like it. the guitar riff is good, a bit of Ronnie slide is allways welcome , a sing along anthemic chorus works well live. For a modern era stones song it's fine.

Best live version ? Oh. I should have read the title properly , Allways the most recent one you witnessed !

I´m shocked. This song is a very fine latter-day-Stones-song and one of the best tracks on VL. If they had never released this one, it would be a great loss. I like everything about You Got Me Rocking, it´s a classic Stones-song with every member on fire. Best live version maybe No Security, maybe Twickenham... both great.

It's rubbish. And for you, HMS, to say it is a fine later day Stones song, having recently posted that Moonlight Mile is unlistenable?!?!? Good grief...

It's an interesting song that evolved a lot. Thx to the Voodoo Brew/Stew boots we know it was a slow tempo keyboards-driven tune most probably penned by Keith.
Mick rewrote and turned it into what's on VL.

Live it's also very interesting : during the 1st shows of 1994 it was played at a slow tempo then as the tour went on it began to be played at a fast pace.
Who made the change? Keith who felt more capable and less rusted after a bunch of gigs? Jagger who needed a fast song to get the audience out of thir chairs?

Re: Best Live Version of You Got Me Rocking

"You Got Me Rocking" is definitely not representative of their best modern material.

Having said that,I have always believed that one of the best live versions of the song was the longer, four minutes plus version from the first stadium show of the 2002 Licks Tour.

There have been other decent live versions such as Brixton '95 , Boston '03 , East Hartford '05 , North Carolina '05 , the 12-12-'12 benefit , Buffalo from a week and a half ago etc. ...... but,I always have believed that it should have been dropped down into a much less heavy rotation by 2003-2005. They could have went with some other, better modern material on the 'A Bigger Bang Tour' in its place. This is especially true considering how many times it was performed on the 'Licks Tour' . They have finally eased up on it these days but, now,it is not usually replaced by another modern song. More often than not, they just play another old song instead. (Or,essentially nothing instead like the last show in Quebec.) It is a wasted opportunity,in my view.

For me, it was the last time I've seen them play it. So that was Buffalo I believe.
