Haven't read this whole thread, but did catch the bit about MM not being worthy. I must beg to differ. Music wise, sonically, the sound that hits your ears, the lyrics, the tone of the instruments, the whole vibe of the song. This is primo, at their best, Rolling Stones.

IMHO, the greatest album of all-time.

The greatest rock'n'roll album in the world by the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world.

The young yet mature, modern, and cleanly produced and engineered Rolling Stones. The fantasy of being and living in the 'new and modern' year of 1971 again captured on vinyl.

The Intel 4004 processor just came out as well as the first hand-held electronic calculators. Somewhere around that time a 'magic' new indicator light came out called the LED. These were the first early signs that something big would eventually happen that would change all of our lives and change the entire world.

Maybe it´s a great piece of music, but too complicated for me. It sounds so weird, I can hardly bear it. And there are strings on it, i don´t like strings in rock music, strings belong to Frank Sinatra. Just listened to Moonlight Mile and had to put on She Said Yeah to blow this strange song out of my ears.

That's the problem with liking bunk things: when you hear something that is truly excellent, you are tragically confused.

No question, one of their all-time best songs!

This was my third album that i got into with the Stones. After the Hits album Rolled Gold initiated me into Stonesworld and then after that Tattoo You.
Sticky was my favourite album then, and to this day, it still is.
I play it more than any other. Although Exile is more critically acclaimed, i prefer this. Its so easy to listen too.
Its soulful, moving and spiritual, you cant help but be taken in by it IMHO

I'll take this one as my desert Island disk..

Absolutely. For years it was Exile but over time and repeated listens this is the one.

I agree. I think if you spent 6 months without listening to Dirty Work to let your hearing and taste recover, and came back to "MoonLight Mile" you would hear something completely different from what you hear now.

It's clearly one one of their Big Four. I would order them like:
1 EOMS
2 Let It Bleed
3 Beggar's Banquet
4 Sticky Fingers

But really, there's not much reason to make comparisons between them, they are four of the best rock albums ever.

The fact that it's "too complicated" speaks volumes - VOLUMES - about the lack of understanding music as well as the inane position about their worst LP.

Only WH is a classic among those songs, though. I love them all, but find Sway the weakest one on the album. A good track, nothing special, imo.

The only rating I see above that is unreasonable is You gotta move a 1/10. I'm guessing some bully stole redhotcarpet's lunch money the first time he heard that song and he is still traumatized. You Gotta Move is as Stonsey as it gets.

SF is a truly outstanding, excellent album. It is one of my favorite Stones albums (LIB, BB and EOMS are my other favorites). As a teenager back in '71, MM was my least favorite song on SF. Now, 40+ years later, my musical tastes have matured and I appreciate the loveliness of that song, both the music and the lyrics. I like MM. It is, however, still my least favorite song on that album.

Got the deluxe SF as an XMAS gift. It is tremendous. The remastered original is amazing. I hear instruments (especially on Bitch) more clearly than on my 44-year old beat-up vinyl copy. And the alternate versions of songs and the live stuff on the extra discs are just super fun. U. Leeds got one helluva concert!

Bottom line, SF is probably their best album ever.

Sway and 'weakest' should never be in the same sentence. Not even sure where to start on the 'nothing special', other than to link the track talk for Sway:

While I often suspect HMS' posts are to amuse more than anything else, one wonders if while enjoying "She Said Yeah," a mental note was made to skip "As Tears Go By" on the same album for fear of hearing Sinatra-like strings on a Stones song.

Brown Sugar 10/10
Sway 10/10
Wild Horses 10/10
Can't You Hear Me Knocking 8/10 (Want to penalize this song more because of the superfluous Taylor tack-on but the opening riff and Jagger-swagger and arguably the best few minutes in Stones history)
You Gotta Move 0/10 (A real blight on this album and the reason it's the weakest of the big 4)
Bitch 10/10
I Got the Blues 7/10 (Used to totally love it but now I can't even make it to Preston's solo - the first two verses I still love)
Sister Morphine 7/10 (Good performances but this song is a downer plus 'Sister Morphine' and 'Cousin Cocaine' are lame - this could've been replaced with 'Family' without affecting the quality of the record)
Dead Flowers 10/10
Moonlight Mile 9/10 (I've said this before but as great as this song is if you're a Stones fan you just prefer Sway, Bitch, Brown Sugar and etc. It's kinda similar to Winter in this respect - beautiful song but where's the Keef?)
