Street Fighting Man - best live version...
Posted by: Tops ()

Your opinions...

Tough one for me. I like the versions on Ya Ya's, Brussels and Stripped.

Wasn't that happy about the one on licks or the way they played it in 1990.

Wembley '73 (brussels boot)

Yeah, I agree. I was going to mention Stripped when I saw the thread, but looks like you got it in. SFM is one of those songs that is capable of coming alive vs. the studio version, which I never really thought much of.

This is a tough question. I absolutely love the music on the '73 versions but Jagger's vocals really detract from them, imo.

Put the vocals from ya ya's over '73 music and that would be it for me, but since we don't have that Stripped is it. But I keep thinking there is some version from a live show we haven't heard out there that is perfect!

I really like the Voodoo Lounge tour arrangement.

The b-stage version, Twickenham on Four Flicks is fantastic
(+ superb finish)!

I'm in agreement wit TooTough and bobo.

Twickenham, August 23, 2003 is the best live version I've ever heard.

Tokyo Dome, March 12, 1995 is close second; a slower version.

Striped 95 Voodoo Lounge Miami 94 Ya Ya's 69 and London 03. And on this just finished tour I'd say KC.

The ones from '72-'73 where Taylor goes bananas towards the end are pretty cool.

Hyde Park Summer Fun version is the killer for me, and I grew up with the 60s, 70s versions!

Have never heard a less than great version of this live. It should be in the set list every night.

On the 7th day God created the Rolling Stones

KC had the most intensity, Voodoo Lounge had the best arrangement, Licks had a special feel as an opener.

For me, sentimentally, it would have to be the 9 November 69 2nd show ( on "Live'r).

Dusseldorf was smoking, but ultimately I would have to go with Ya-Ya's or Brussels '73. The crescendo at the end destroys me in a good way.

Opener versions 02/03 are the best.
The 2013 till now versions comes second.
The one time they played it in 1997 comes third.
The 1995 Stripped version comes fourth.
The other 94-95 versions comes fifth.
'89-'90 comes sixth.
All the horrible 70's versions with Jagger growling the lyrics like he doesn't give a shit are useless.

They didn't play it AT ALL in concert in 1997.

2 times in 1998 ...... with only questionable recordings to document the performances.
