Breakfast at Tiffany's, the ending when she's running around out in the rain to find that damn cat. What was that cat's name anyway?

"Cat" ...that's a heartbreaker too.

She's all alone and lost, and "Cat" is all she has left.

End of Paper Moon: when Moze finally drops Addie off at her aunt's house..and he stops the car, finds the picture she left him, and he just looks at it. He realizes he cares. She comes running afer him because she doesn't fit into her aunt's conventional life. This kills me every time. Two lonely grifters alone in the world. And they realize how much they need each other, but its never spoken. They just belond together.

Loads for me;

The last 20 mins of 'Atonement' from Dunkirk onwards

The scene between Hoffman & his son in "Kramer vs Kramer" after he's lost the case and has to tell his son that he's going to live with his mom...

The end of 'Schindlers List"

Someone mentioned "Hachi- A Dogs tale" ; sad smiley

And the last minute of tonight's England v Japan game....

Definitely this one, but for me, it's when he says, If there's anything you need...

Man, I go everytime.

It's a Wonderful Life - the beginning as the bells are tolling and then the end from when George is praying to have his life back.

Wow, so many good ones.

The Way We Were, that scene and others in the film, true, Stupidguy2.
My ex-h and I saw it together, right when we knew we were breaking up. We were rather
like Redford and Streisand in our differences, both struggled to hold back tears. Mine dripped
down anyway.

Did anyone else see The Joy Luck Club? A number of scenes in there were heart-rendering, how the mothers
treated their daughters. I went with a younger man I knew from work and we were sobbing practically the
whole movie. I've not cried such large buckets at a film before or since.

Sugar Kane, eh, Rockman? What a marvel, gorgeous, vulnerable.

Just "Cat". grinning smiley Or "Orangey", as it was known.

...just testing to see if everyone was paying attention!

I watched that movie dozens of times, it's one of my all-time favorites. winking smiley

And yes, that ending scene when Audrey Hepburn tries to find Cat it's heartbreaking.

Bus Stop: every thing Norma Jean does. Of all her films and performances, this is the one that captured her aching vulnerability so beautifully. She was like raw nerve on the screen.

yes, a damn good movie. while it was filmed in the 50s, for me it always felt it was filmed a bit later, early to mid 60s maybe. Just seemed more 'modern'.

Escape From New York when Cabbie dies.

This is the most I've laughed in weeks. Poor Borgnine! Why are Kurt Russel movies where he wears tight leather so absurdly good (Big Trouble anyone?)?

How about when Lyla doesn't give Otto a blowjob at the United Fruitcake Outlet in Repo Man?

Really, so many of these responses are rich (which I presume many did not intend). Midnight Cowboy ending is the first one that came to mind. A few other real ones...

Lawrence of Arabia - "nothing is written" scene

Requiem For A Heavyweight (A. Quinn) - "Mountain Rivera was no punk. Mountain Rivera was almost the Heavyweight Champion of the World!"

Can't believe no one has mentioned this...the last scene of Performance, where Chas/Turner is being returned to Harry Flowers, knowing he will soon be killed, and accepting his fate.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the scenes of Brian in 1+1, the making of Sympathy for the Devil. You could tell the poor guy was miserable and ill. Very sad.

Not as miserable and ill as he looks in the R&R Circus footage...

The Movie (Bang the Drum Slowly)

scene: Robert De Niro getting on the plane to head back home.

One of the saddest & loniest scenes of all time ( IMHO )

I cry hard every time and Im a cold ,uncaring, selfish Mutt.

There's cassevetes movie with Judy Garland , her last, his first... about her character bonding with a special needs boy. They become attached because she doesn't have anyone and his parents dumped in a home, but she's a teach r so she can't devote all her attention to this one boy at the school because it affects the other kids or something like that. At the end, the kids are singing a song for a Thanksgiving program, and she has to ignore him, but it's breaking her heart because he's just yearning for her attention.
It's called A Child is Waiting. It kills me.

Cold Mountain when Inman dies, The English Patient when Katherine dies. Both Anthony Minghella films - he really knew how to make beautiful films.

Not a movie, but every regeneration scene in Doctor Who is sad. Some of them are way more heartbreaking than others though (10th and 11th Doctors). Also the end of The Dark Knight Rises.

4) the gathering of donors in George Bailey's house in It's a Wonderful Life.

That is the only scene from any movie that brings me to waterfall tears every time. I don't know how the actors were directed, but they sure brought the house, as did Jimmy Stewart.

Yeah, that totally caught me by surprise. Also the scene where he reads her note to have his adventure. One of those movies that I can only watch once.

Anchorman .....when Ron Burgundy is sitting at the bar all alone singing..."sky rockets in flight, afternoon deerelliiigghhttt, (makes sound of passing gas with his mouth), I make far noises with my mouth." Such a sad, yet soulful redention of the song and scene.

The Mission - (Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons) - the ending is brutally sad when the Spanish and Portuguese attack, burn, and destroy the mission, killing almost everyone on their path.

Mask - (Cher, Sam Elliott, Eric Stoltz) -sadness throughout, but the ending is very sad, sad, sad.
