I'm sure it's Mick Taylor (it's got that typical vibrato on a note or two). It always reminded me of Robby Krieger's (The Doors) guitar sound though.

In the 70's there was always talk about Page doing the solo.

I searched about 4 years for that tune.
In 1995 I found the single in strassbourgh and payed a horrible price.
It was worth.

Wasn't the Page rumour from the very nice Roy Carr book?

I found the single in a 2nd hand record shop in Utrecht in '84 and paid about 4 guilders (about a dollar) for it.

At the time I paid 20 DM (Elsass belongs to France but is near german border). A lot of money for a student these days

I would have paid that, gladly, for it. We both agree it was worth it! Great song.

It's too bad they didn't include this as well as Criss Cross Mind and left Hide Your Love and Silver Train is B-sides.

A little late, but I have to confess one more time:

My Love for the Rolling Stones started with this song!--> see my name!

Well I was a teenager and fell in Love with Mick singing it....then I bought my first RS LP "It´s only Rock n Roll" and after many years, records and tours - I´m grown up a little but still in Love with the Stones....

I first found/heard it in the jukebox in a bar called John Barleycorns in SF; they had the original 45. I would go in there and play it all the time in the early 90's

This is a wonderful song and 10/10 B-side gem. The only problem is if you try to include it on GHS, there'd be too many ballads. Interestingly, I found an article from "RollingStone" before the release of GHS and this was one of the song titles listed to be on the album. The article lists these songs that would be on the album (and written this way in the article):

Starf*cker
Hundred Years
Can You Hear The Music?
Through The Lonely Hours
Angie
Hide Your Love
Crisscross

Interesting. And mindboggling that ‘voodoo reggae’ crap made the final cut over gems like Through The Lonely Nights and Crisscross Man. In the case of Through The Lonely Nights though it was probably the song’s lyrics which condemned it to its obscure B-side fate. I mean the song is almost too ridiculously wistful and sad given that it’s about a guy who makes his girlfriend turn tricks. But I suppose there are pimps out there who occasionally reflect on what they’re doing and feel regret. At least it’s possible, I guess. Any pimps out there?

Silver Train actually was a b-side as well (Angie). Don't know why they didn't use great songs like Criss Cross Mind which remained outtakes. Releasing album tracks on 7" b-sides doesn't make much sense in a way. But album sales were massive at the time; probably they didn't care about hardcore fans who would only buy singles in case there are hidden rarity.

Me and some friends were stuck on Sardinia for 3-4 weeks. In a bar was a jukebox with the single. We played that B-side to death.

It was the similar time when I found the IORR/TTLN single record in a small shop in Prague, after years of searching. Fortunately, I paid a comparably small price. Always liked that track, especially MT's singing Gibson after the last verse ...

Interesting, I've always thought it was kind of a sleeper, but not as bad as "Any Way You Look At It". For my wistful ballad b-sides I turn to "I Think I'm Going Mad", which is a top song for me, though likely a sleeper for others. One man's sleeper is another man's keeper.

Ah, I see. I can't remember all that. Just goes to show, things aren't always what they seem - Silver Train should've remained a B-side only!
