Looks, feels exactly the same...thank goodness. If only the programmers making operating systems could do the same... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Just upgraded my mom with a new tablet after spending the last few years getting her up to speed on a laptop...starting by trying to answer her question "Where's the mouse?"

Thanks Bjornulf. thumbs up

peace

Was hoping the site got a little modernized and there was a fee for members.

Stopped my day for a while, I thought the moaners had drained the batteries.

I wouldn't know what to do without IORR

Test:
I posted 2 links here.
one with https, shows a link to youTube
the other one, with http, that used to embed, is invisible.

any more suggestions?

I use Firefox and have tried several different approaches, but still not happening.
What adjustments are needed?

Yes some security issues still. Chrome tells me this site does not have public audit records and uses an obsolete form of encryption. But it's not like we are too worried about the privacy of our posts here, it is a public forum.

No doubt Bjornulf is aware of the issue and will have some instructions and explanation for us shortly on how to get embedded videos to appear as more than just links.

peace

I had to write my password again to be able to log in. And the iorr https adress was crossed out. So something is going on...

I see Firefox blocks 'unsafe' elements on the top left, before the URL.
if you allow it to display, by right clicking the shield icon - the embedded links then work.

oh, yes. that was problem for me too.
I could not log in, even with right username and password.
only after I clicked on one of my older posts, it worked.
I did clear and flush the cache beforehand.

Thanks, I see the shield now, but I wonder why firefox is mad at these embedded clips now. It used to like them, show them and play them.

I feel uneasy about telling firefox to disable protection now. What if I take off the protection and my computer gets an ITD? But I would rather play videos emnbedded to avoid all the dumb ads that appear on the youtube web page.

ITD- internet transmitted disease.

Yes that seems to work for embedded links, although it automatically reverts back to 'block' when you leave thread and come back.

Agreed.

As for being able to log in, I had no problem accessing site earlier- was already signed in from last night.

Don't worry too much, because we have been doing this to embed videos before already.leaving the 's' off a http link.

even Wikipedia has switched to https urls. it is to make connections more safe, I guess.
If you don't want to see ads try an adblocker like Ablock Plus. works great.

IORR.org was moved to larger more high capacity server solutions tonight. It should be up and running as normal now, with a higher capacity. If you got some funny-looking screen images tonight that is ok, no worries. Thanks to my son who did the hard work while I watched the NHL game #6 and also worked on other IORR updates...

Thanks, BV and BV junior. The https adress is still crossed over with a red line though for some reason?

Thank you both for your hard work.

When I could not get on to IORR last night, I had the same feeling as when a periscope disconnects during a show..... Help!

IORR has been moved physically (IP addresses etc). Some browsers may get grumpy because they expect certain stuff in local memory. This is what I see as of now:

Firefox and MS IE : No worries

Chrome : You must write the entire server address:

www.iorr.org

Also, Chrome (Google) complain about the certificate, by adding a red dash through the https. No worries about that. IORR is not a bank. It just happens to run on secure web protocol i.e. https, which means there is cryptation of data. Like logging in you use a password. The encryption will be upgraded soon. It just takes some time.

PS. The end user address of iorr is iorr.org. The real technical address is listed below, in case your browser does not "get it"...

https://www.iorr.org/

iorr.org (without www) with Chrome on a Mac works fine.

Just an observation (a tweak may be needed):

Not all of the updates on the NEWS tab were transferred. The latest news posted is from May 15th.

Thanks for the Firefox shield tip, but it keeps resetting when I want to preview my posts.

I think that disabling protection for embedded videos is more unsafe than embedding "s-less" http videos. Was this change really better for us?

Thanks to BV and to your son for all your on work on IORR. thumbs upsmiling smiley

Re embedded videos: is the present situation (all embedded videos back to the beginning of time now invisible on some browsers) intended to be permanent?

If you know what the video was, it's fairly easy to make the link appear, but most older threads didn't add a title since it showed in the video itself. So big swathes of video postings are now useless because we can't even tell what the video was any more.

When I read the IORR posts on my cell phone (android) I can watch the videos, but not on my computer, but I hope this situation can be solved. Until there, I'm posting the videos with two URLs: with and without the "s" on "https".

It's like they got turned into ghosts.

I hope this gets fixed and they are brought back to life.

So far this upgrade has been more of a downgrade. But I'll trust BV on this. It will probably take a couple of days to settle and adjust.
