I AGREE

The Rolling Stones were never "rebellious" in that way. Where have you ever seen any evidence of that? they were "rebellious" in terms of deconstructing social norms and "petty morals." Not that that's not radical (it is). But it has nothing to do with lifting up the Everyman or something spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

They've always been about the money. No surprise. You can hate it but you shouldn't be surprised.

it just feels kind of odd--they are such a shameless hype machine now, but it will be like this gig never existed--and it may be the smallest gig they play for the rest of their careers. It matters. The Stones in a small club is history. But it's off the grid. Someone stand out front and bootleg it.

The money this private person is paying is going directly into the tour budget, i.e. theoretically he is saving us a few dollar on ticket prices, like a sponsor.

If you don't like the fact that the Rolling Stones play for money, go figure out, they have done it since 1962. Just read Keith's notes in his book LIFE, day by day. He noted every single pound, shilling and pence they did every show from the very first one. Getting paid as a performing artist is acknowledge of fame and success. Still.

i think bill was the one who noted all the amounts in his book. but keith obviously has his priorities in the same place.

" the "private party" will actually be another area appearance by the Rolling Stones, paid for by a single individual with very deep pockets."

So, no one on this entire board knew that this is a secret show until 2 hours beforehand? I find that hard to believe. I would jave flown down and hour ago if I knew that were the case.

Anyone who did know this...? eye rolling smiley

Somebody told me about this at the Fonda. I have no idea who they were and thought they were high and blew them off. Sounded like crazy talk to me.

Also, I could care less about the money. Let them make what they can. I care about the privacy. As a fan, that just seems kind of shameless to deprive people of a newsworthy show. I know they don't control that part, but why play a show that has to remain invisible?

no wonder they excluded Mick Taylor. They were afraid he'd eat up all the shrimp cocktails. So much for "they are musical socialists.

Actually, I'm sorry for being bristly - that was stupid. I'm irrationally irritated that I didn't hustle down to San Diego. Someone on this board "who knows" told me definitively on Sunday that they were returning to Beverly Hills after the show. I had initially had a hunch that they might be hanging around SD for a bit, and had considered bopping down that way.

To quote Beck "Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own." tongue sticking out smiley

Thanks re: "The Night Before Altamont." It is a radio documentary. It is long overdue for broadcast. I have 20 amazing interviews of cool and key people there the night before. Been holding out for Keith, who went to Altamont the night before with Mick, and who spent the night on his own, moseying around unperturbed by and sometimes mingling with the crowds, having a pretty cool time.

Because I'm doing so much research for this and for the next-project/full-length film Altamont 360°, a book is taking shape.

So---who's in for tonight's show? and what's happening down there?

No phones? Maybe the Whitworths will be exempt from the ban and they can Periscope the show for our benefit.

It is F'ING ridicoulous that people are getting excited that the Stones have completely SOLD OUT and are now bowing down to billionaire's...
The Stones should do something honorable and blast thru U.S. Zip Codes playing to and feeding the homeless, that would much more suit their rebellious 60's & 70's reputation...
I disagree. They are doing what they have always done, play music for money....a lot of it. I don't know what's rebellious about feeding the homeless...... they didn't do that in the 60s or 70s either during those actual rebellious years. They are rock stars, not social volunteers.

Not asking them to be social volunteers...
Set up on the street unanounced, cater some food...play for 1 hour and call it a day...Now that would be something that even you or many others would not expect which would be considered quite radical and rebellious against the industry which has shaped them into a corporate puppet hype machine....

Personally, this type of spin doctoring offends me more than a private show. Rest assured, if I had the money I'd try to get them and would pay more to have a say in the setlist.
