'Summerfest' announced Buddy Guy as the opener in Milwaukee!! SWEET

Ohhhhhh, what a great opener !!!

Not only is it a great opener but chances of Buddy Guy playing a song with the Stones have just increased to likely to happen.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Sheryl Crow join in on a song as she is playing there the next night with a couple open dates before.

Oh yes, Buddy Guy and Sheryl are welcome to play with the Stones. thumbs upthumbs upthumbs up

Kid Rock would be fine, if it was 1999.

In addition to Buffalo, St. Paul and Broken Bones also showing they are opening in Atlanta. Listening to them on their site: Almost a Blues Brothers vibe with a little Al Green thrown in is at best I can compare.

They are awesome! Check their Letterman appearance, it's great.

Cheers,

Have you seen a Kid Rock show since then? He has improved his act and actually has a pretty decent amount of rock tunes in his bag. Some of his covers are great. His attitude towards ticket pricing alone is worthy of respect. He is a God in Detroit and that's not a particularly easy audience if you can't rock. He does.

For anyone who is unsure about Brad Paisley, do not worry. I have seen him twice now the more recent being last Friday in Camden, NJ. I'm not even a big fan of current country music, but Brad puts on a great live show. High energy and a great guitar player. Often plays some rock covers during his shows to mix it up. Always full of surprises.

A fantastic site but without trying to be an 'anorak' am I correct in saying Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble also guested for the Stones in 1981(USA)?

I thought this might be a thread to comment on them. Well, so be it - the opening acts I saw on the Steel Wheels and Voodoo Lounge tours (all 3 Stones shows I've been to):

1989 Pontiac Silverdome, somewhere near Detroit, MI - Living Colour - I actually FELL ASLEEP.

1994 - Spartan Stadium; East Lansing, MI - Lenny Kravitz. I had seen Lenny open up for The Cult in 1992 in Merriville, IN and he put on a fantastic rock show. This was pretty good too.

- Louisiana Superdome; New Orleans, LA - Bryan Adams. This was a huge mystery to me and still is. I've only ever actually liked one song, Cuts Like A Knife, but then I think I was maybe 13 when it came out? It was cool - it swings. The rest of his shit sucks. His drummer. Mickey Curry, played drums on The Cult's Sonic Temple and Ceremony records (as well as a couple of live radio performances that were recorded for single B-sides). Great drummer. That was the only real interest I actually had in listening to Adams - his drummer.

Agreed. I'm totally with you on that one.

I was working in Texas in '81 and SRV and Double Trouble weren't together yet. I saw the Stones at The Cotton Bowl in Dallas with openers ZZ Top and The Fab T Birds.

Hey Skipstone. I'm not a huge Adam's fan but he was huge in the 80's, especially in Canada with songs like Run To You and Summer of 69. He quit writing with his songwriting partner Jim Vallance in the late 80's and I think he's gone downhill ever since, although his biggest single was the sappy Everything I Do... from Robin Hood.
Cult recorded Sonic Temple here in Vancouver, which is where Bryan and his band are from so that's where the Mickey Currey connection probably comes from.
AC/DC just recorded their album in Vancouver at Bryan's studio.

I saw Bryan just before the release of 'Reckless" in San Francisco.
The guy put on one hell of a show and he owned radio with that LP for the next year and a half.

Good times.

I remember thinking Peter Wolf opening at Candlestick 1981 was trying way too hard to be Mick Jagger and I resented it. My stupid resentment made me miss one good opener!

Seal opened in 1994 and sucked badly. Why Seal? Who lost a bet?

Los Lonely Boys and the Ian McClagan Bump band opened in Austin. That was fun.

I'm rambling now.

3 or 4 others in there. blah blah blah

1989 LA Coliseum : Guns and Roses. LA's Mounted Patrol were nearly stomping scalpers and fans due to them not moving fast enough.

Excellent concert!

Metalica was an unusual one 3 yrs ago in SF. Many came just to see them and they did try to play their greatest hits to appease the Stones fans.
The best was Geils. They were at the top of their game in '81
Maybe Skynard was the best ever judging by the tape

Re: Stones opening acts

I've seen some great ones:

J.Geils in '81, at Los Angeles Coliseum
Red Hot Chili Peppers in '94 at Pasadena Rose Bowl
Toots & The Maytalls in Rotterdam '03
The Hives in Stockholm '03
Van Morrison Oakland Stadium '05

And I've seen some stinkers:

Living Colour L.A. 89
Starsailor, London '03

And many others duds that thankfully I can't recall right now.

My Favourites:

Black Uhuru - Wembley 82
Sheryl Crow - UK 1999

The worst:

Spin Doctors - Tampa and Miami '94
+ whoever it was at MSG Jan 06 - they were awful!

The Meters were one of the best. Saw them 5 times during the Stones tenure at Earl's Court in 76. One of the funkiest bands ever.

Here's the great album they were touring at the time.

Yeah, +1 about Danko Jones - his band kicks some serious a**. that's the way to open a show, imo.
But instead, I had to endure those stinkers called Starsailor 3 time in a row.
I can hardly get over it. it still triggers a puke reflex, just thinking about it eye popping smiley
c'mon, please someone tell me that they were the worst "act" ever, to open for the Stones.
