Why does Mick refer to the Tories as "Messinas people"? It's another cup of tea, isn't it?

“Mick has been a bit of a political junkie his whole life"

"“Keef has been a bit of a political junkie his whole life,” says the Stones frontman (apocryphal quote from the same "Indie" article)

Savviest political observer I don't know but he is the savviest zero-sum taxpayer for sure. And if they let him vote he's an ardent Tory stalwart. Conservative is his middle name...

Not too sure about this : we're talign about a guy who wrote "and insisted on playing live) "Undercover" a song that could have been penned by Joe Strummer or Billy Bragg.
Same guy who gave us "Highwire" or "My Sweet Neo-Con".

Sure, dcba. Not everything makes sense. People are often ambiguous by nature. He is a born and bred conservative though (Tory). Both his parents were Tories.
In many ways Sir Michael is your typical English middle class man.

I'd say Edward Snowden's biopic could begin with "Fingerprint File".

Jagger is a closet Tory, but was chastened when he said some positive things about Margaret Thatcher.

The Conservative Party in UK is not particularly conservative.

I agree that he's likely socially liberal, and also, likely, fiscally conservative. He'll deny any moniker that describes him as "conservative"...as what proper and self-respecting Rock Star would ever want to be tagged with that awful label. Labeling Mick sets up a bit of a pigeon hole, and just cuts off any nuance. But with Mick, I think you've got to allow for nuance when it comes to politics.

His guarded (but positive) remarks on Margaret Thatcher at her passing actually impressed me, as the easy/reflexive thing for a pop star to say at her death was something negative, about how the world was better off for her not being in it, etc. It takes no courage for anybody to express that opinion. At any rate, he didn't go there, and expressed dismay at the seeming "glee" that was expressed at her passing by those who reflexively dismissed her as an example of all that was tyrannical and unjust. In a very mild/minor way, that took some courage, and showed that he's not compelled to express a political view that would be all too easy for him to take, if he only cared about gaining favor with those who hate all conservatives.
