No no, dear Aquamarine - the pizza at 57th & Broadway was a purely musical reference
but it was sweet of you to care! Enjoy the hell out of the tour :E

A fiasco would have been wonderful, something interesting. That was not.

everyone loves a fiasco. this was a dud. a zero. a swing and a total miss. a bunch of old awkward boring kings. go back to mystique. ignore the world. do your thing in private. these attempts to appear "relevant" make you look the exact opposite.

more and more this tour feels like a cheap, mercenary hustle. a sleight of hand. an excuse for fans to make excuses.

Actually the Twitter event, although not really revealing to us, was very useful for them in creating free publicity. They got more than 100 articles around the Country based on it, all free. Rolling Stone did a big thing on it. it helps drive ticket sales. That's what this is all about. its not for insight for real fans. They know they already have you by the balls!

Re: Twitter q&a and special announcement Monday

you really think that event sold $200-400 tickets? Highly doubtful. They said nothing. It was not as advertised, it was canned. It was hack. Another lame-o gimmick gone bad.

Kills me as a longtime fan. This is the crap they will now be remembered for.

and who wants to bet the set list will include

startme up
HTW brown sugar
JJF
satisfaction
sister morphine
MR
YAGWYW
miss you
doom and gloom
happy

what's your point? this is what the song IORR is about. it's what they've been doing ever since.

Wow! This is whipping up more emotional reaction than anything I've seen on IORR in a long time. Let's all just take a deep breath, sit back, put on our favorite Stones LP / CD / DVD / download, and enjoy why we're all fans. Forget about social media and all that crap. It's Only Rock & Roll, But I Like It. And, You Can't Always Get What You Want. But If You Try Some Time, You Just Might Find, You'll Get What You Need. Relax.

BTW...I'm probably several parsecs behind the curve, but when I logged on to the Henry Fonda Theater website yesterday, the Shaky Graves / Barr Brothers show that was originally scheduled for Wed night May 20 has been moved to another venue for 'logistical' reasons. I'm guessing tomorrow night 1200 lucky souls will enjoy the Stones in a way that most of us mortals will never see them. I hope they enjoy it to the max!

Little known tidbit, those were actual lyrics in "It's only Rock and Roll",
but like Kevin Costner's part in "The Big Chill", they were left on the cutting room floor.

But... I know... its only rock and roll... and I like it....

yes I do.....

Yes I like it.... its only rock and roll!!!

Most people weren't even aware it happened, and those who were can probably already hardly remember it. It's really only a blip on the radar screen.

Can't really tell if this is sarcasm or serious. How in the world will the Greatest Rock n Roll Band In The World's reputation be tarnished by a Twitter Q and A? It was not even close to the "fiasco" some people on this board are labeling it as. It drummed up publicity, which was of course their goal. Just because a small portion of IORR (which is in itself a small portion of Stones fans) we're disappointed that nothing exciting was revealed doesn't make it a disaster. The delusion of some of the "fans" on hear is pretty remarkable.

No one's labeling this as a fiasco. They're labeling it as boring, canned, and pointless.

It's definitely doesn't change my love for the Stones, but it could have been much better. Better questions, better interviewer, better presentation. Disappointment is based on expectations and I guess I had some that weren't met. Is it too much to expect a little excitement, more talk about music and new developments and less about Ronnie's hair and well known stuff like Keith's influences? This was obviously for a different audience, not well informed and intelligent Stones fans who obviously and understandably wanted more.

peace

it's unclear what audience it was targeted for. the first thing a millennial is going to ask is "... why is she reading from a piece of paper and not an iPad or iPhone...?" if the goal was to be modern, they failed. if the goal was to appeal to hard core fans, they failed. they should fire whoever was responsible.

and i agree it's totally irrelevant to how the band is remembered.

I completely agree. In terms of gaining knowledge about the band or learning anything cool I got nothing. However, the softball questions they lobbed the band are not surprising. The guys are busy rehearsing and preparing. They definitely got final say over which quesitons were asked, and (understandably) they don't want difficult ones. Maybe (and hopefully) one day they'll do a more pressing interview that pushes them, but yesterday wasn't it. I'm just bothered by the people on here that crucify the band for all their personal grievances and act like their thoughts represent that of the majority. You're obviously allowed to be angry at the band if you want to be, but don't try speaking on behalf of the fanbase.

Who here is speaking "on behalf of the fanbase"? It's just some people expressing opinions.

And just in case anyone is still worrying... No, the sky did not fall.
Everything is going to be fine. The Stones legacy is fine. No one was
hurt or injured by the twitter thing. It is all going to be OK.

Well by saying "this is the crap they will be remembered for" you're implying that many others feel as strongly about the twitter thing as you do, enough people to alter the bands reputation. You're absolutely entitled to feel the way you do about it, but I don't think a large portion of fans feel as strongly.

Well hey, that's your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. I only speak for myself and in my opinion, this tour (and all the gimmicks its being festooned with) has the potential to be a sad last chapter. I say that as big as anyone here, I assure you.

People have been blah blahing online about "this (supposedly) last (supposedly) sad chapter" for over 20 years now... fyi- that is about 20 chapters ago... MEANWHILE THE STONES ROLL ON!!

Hey look its Bob Dylan on Letterman!! COOL!!!

Well I for one am going to forget about this whole Twitter fiasco and focus
on the upcoming shows. My last word on the subject is we were prompted and encouraged by their Twitter campaign to submit questions for apparently days
after the recorded responses were taped. This shows a complete lack of respect for the fans and their time. I suspect the stones themselves would never condone
Such a thing and the blame should rest with their phony social media specialists.

Okay rant is over. Looking forward to this great summer tour. Long live the
Rolling Stones.
