If you try to find a copy of the "VIDEO CD" of Live at the Max, -
you´ll get yourself a pleasent surprise !
It has a completely different "sound" than the DVD-audio, - much more like
a real live-album ! !
The Video-CD was a shortlived medium, - which lost the battle to the DVD.
It can´t be played on a normal CD-player, - you´ll have to use a multiplayer
that can read DVDs, - but it acts just like a regular CD, - with no
root-menu.
Should be possible to find quite cheap !

Henri,
Interesting - Found a few on EBay but looked like they were all European sellers. So, does this format play on US DVD players?

Hmmm - Actually I think so ! - and especially if you just want to play
the audio, - but no guarantee . . . .
To my previous knowledge, this Video-CD was released in the UK, - Hong Kong
& Taiwan, - and was a completely new media.
Live at The Max is the Rolling Stones-"product" that has been released on most
different medias.
Originally on IMAX-CINEMA, - on Laserdisc, - on Video-CD, - on VHS, - Betamax (?)
and on DVD.
On Wiki you can read about the difficulties of recording and mixing the original audio for the IMAX-CINEMA,
- and it must have been pure hell transferring it to the
other medias.
I have lost my VHS years ago, - and I don´t remember how it sounded, -
and have no idea about the Laserdisc, - (If someone owns it, - and can play it,
please let us know !)
- but I can tell, that there is a great difference from the Video-CD to the DVD !
I´m pretty sure, that the Video-CD had no regional codes, -
they came with the DVD-technology.

I have the "Live At The Max" LaserDisc but it must have been ages since I've watched it the last time. As far as I can remember the sound wasn't significant (better) compared with the VHS-tape. Ok, less hiss but a somehow flat sound - like the LSTNT LD. Easy to forget about it.
I have the Tokyo LD as well but I think I've never played it.
Somehow the format (LaserDisc) didn't age very well...

FYI...I have the 45 single for Jumping Jack Flash b/w Tumbling Dice and TD sounds just like the mix from the dvd with the instruments and vocals way up front the way they sound on the video. As I remember, the b-sides on the cd singles were the same.
