There was a short interview with Mick in Rolling Stone & I got the impression that special guests are going to be happening. I saw Katy Perry with them & she wasn't bad. Could've lived without it though. Mick needs to realize that he is not young & hip anymore, not that he needs to be.

He might not be young, but I am and I sure think he's still hipper than a lot of people. But I agree that he was trying way too hard with the guest stars last time around. It was like he could have been holding up a sign saying "I asked this person to guest because I want to generate the interest of their target audience". If young people (like yours truly) want to get into the Stones, they will be attracted to them on their own, not because Katy Perry or Taylor Swift guested at one of their concerts.

So no Taylor Swift?

Nah the stage is already full of crashing bores with silly old men making a fool of themselves so she should GET OFF THE STAGE. We hate it when crashing bores become successful and we were not wrong.

Nah the line is actually "We buy clothes when we don't really need 'em, things we buy to cover up what's inside" from the 2004 song 'All Falls Down'. Kanye West mocks the consumerism of the Black community... how ironic.

I agree,unless ONLY if the guest can play an awesome lead guitar. Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Pete Townsend, etc. Please Mick no sappy singers.

Agree with one exception: Since they don't want MT as band member let's define him as special guest... being permanently on stage...

Yeah, it does seem like a marketing ploy and many of us don't like it, but Mick especially seems to really enjoy the special guests. Maybe he feels like it gives him and the whole band a boost of energy to have someone else join in for a song. Some of the guitar guests have been fine, but I really don't like when they add an extra singer. I'd much rather hear Keith and/or Ronnie adding their voices to Mick's and Lisa is the best choice for GS.

I suspect that if there are special guests they will be doing a song from Sticky Fingers. I hope they show some respect to Mick Taylor and long-time fans by not having any guitar player playing something that he came up with for that album. If we see Jeff Beck or somebody doing CYHMK we'll...well, I don't now how we'd react...

I think everybody on this site would agree that Bono and The Edge from U2 would
make perfect guest stars for the upcoming tour. Something like this would knock your socks of I guess:

Really, I do believe The Edge can play some good guitar but his style and this song are not a very good match, imo.

pleasant surprises.
The energy Florence Welsh brought onto the stage with her presence during Gimme Shelter
in London was one of these pleasant surprises. This clip down here shows us how Mick
was coping with her. I am deeply charmed by this performance.

Yes I think I agree. Buddy Guy in Shine A Light for Champagne & Reefer was good but I don't recall anyone else that added anything (other than MT as has already been stated)

She tries too hard and all I hear is awful yelling vocals. Don't know why she thinks she has a great voice because she's really annoying. People who compare her to

In a purely commercial sense I understand why Jagger thinks the guest star cameos are important, but they're generally annoying and distracting, and even when they're good, it is often very hard for them to add anything to the show. Yes, the pop singers they get in for Gimme Shelter and Wild Horses are invariably underrehearsed. But even if you're a guitar player sitting in with the Stones, you're not allowed to bring any pedals onstage with you, and thus totally dependent on Pierre actually turning you up during your solo - which he sometimes fails to do for Ronnie, never mind the guests.

That said, Clapton and Beck did well at the O2, to different values of 'well'.

It's the Stones stage, if they want to have a guest that is their business. If people don't like the potential of a guest then stay home. I personally have no issues with having guests even if I am not crazy about the particular guest. I've seen plenty of shows where guests joined them and never felt it took from the show. I don't think you will see regular guests like you did during the 50 & Counting tour, where that was clearly a feature of the tour.

Morrissey I think was the guy with the Smiths who made maybe the worst music in the rock era, and Brits for some reason always try to push the idea that he was a big deal.

If you have not heard them think Culture Club ( but more feminine musically ) trying to take themselves seriously. Awful..
