WSJ: What to wear to the Stones

This is from the Wall Street Journal, subscriber-only. But here it is, in eye-rolling totality:

Rock Some Cool Duds for Outdoor Concerts
Q: I’m a 67-year old slightly overweight woman who is going to a Rolling Stones concert in an outdoor stadium in San Diego in late May. What on earth should I wear?

—AH, Lahaina, Hawaii

A: Rock with The Rolling Stones next month dressed in a casual summer style that suits you. The more fashion changes, the more trends stay the same. The outdoor concert motif that boomers wore back in the day — namely, tie-dye tank tops, print T-shirts, fringed suede vests, bell bottom jeans and water buffalo thong sandals — doesn’t look that much different from what’s trendy right now. So get ready to see a lot of familiar looks in the audience.

Go straight to Pinterest.com and type in “rock concert attire” to get lots of ideas on the sensibilities of outdoor summer style. Ignore the midriff tops and cutoff short-shorts and study instead the layering of textured fabrics like lace, gauze, leather and distressed denim. They can play off each other for a modern summer look, suitable for Nascar outings, street festivals and outdoor parties.

What’s cool and comfortable: an asymmetrical gauze or lacy top, a plaid shirt with sleeves rolled up, a graphic tank top with a faded denim overshirt or vest, worn with distressed capri jeans (see examples at the trendy retailer for women sizes 12 to 24 called Torrid.com). Consider summer jumpsuits and tiered cotton peasant skirts too. And don’t forget the trimmings: gauzy scarves, silver and turquoise jewelry, a straw Panama hat, sunglasses and a crowd-friendly throwback: a suede cross-body bag dripping with fringe.

You’re going to be standing and bouncing around throughout the concert, but do think of comfortable shoes beyond sneakers and Birkenstock sandals, including distressed cowboy boots, or espadrilles, that protect your feet from getting stepped on — or getting too grimy.

Mature guys can look hip at summer concerts, too. Say no to “business casual” golf wear. Say yes to funky combinations like T-shirts with a beat-up suede vest and jeans — brimmed straw hat optional. Now you’re ready to cut loose with the Stones.

Bring a jacket to San Diego in May, at night. Petco Park is next to the water. I am wearing my one of my 60's outfits that i saved. Yes, i still fit into the clothes and a coat.

...thanks for the tip...but it can't be as bad as Candlestick Park. McCartney during the summer was a bit of a shock for me not being from the bay area, and I rarely get cold.

This reminds me of Coachella. Some people act like this is the best music festival in the world but this looks like a "what should I wear" kind of place. People don't have the right to drink alcohol except in "specific" places. So they tell you what you should wear (no there are no rules but it seems like the price itself attract people who work in fashion) and what you should drink.

talk about red flags. 67 year old female asking what to wear to a stadium rock concert? meaning she's never been to one before? yeah, probably.

based on my experience with stones shows, this age group (65+) and this level of inexperience my advice would be as follows.

wear something comfortable that will compliment your CONSTANT COMPLAINING. and extra jacket won't hurt, either.

This WJS journal tripe is just some kid's lame attempt to
poo poo the attention The Stones tour is getting, and they probably
dreamed it up as they were listening to some overly bassed, crappy new
non-music sounds created by some nobody who will not be remembered
for anything in 10 years.

I would bet money the kid who authored the article is not a Stones
fan and is not planning on going to a show, he is surely way too cool
for this type of "elderly music"

Never in the history of man or woman has any 67-year old slightly
overweight woman EVER thought or said, LET ALONE ACTUALLY WRIITEN TO
OR ASKED some douchebag at the wsj advice column anything like...

No woman like that, has ever thought, said or asked anything like that... ever.

It never happened. It is just another snide attempt by a kid who has
been spoon fed his musical tastes by clear channel communications corp
which abides by what American Idol douches tell them is proper.

Don't hold back now...

Seriously, though, I agree. And the web page has been taken down it appears...

It looks like it is still up, [www.wsj.com]

It is just predictably lame how the MSM press douches always only have one of two things to say about the Stones... before tours it is 1) "They are too old, over the hill, in wheel chairs, should give it up" etc etc... after tours 2) "The Rolling Stones again prove they are the greatest as they thrilled and entertained their fans while raking in 100s of millions of Dollars on their most recent successful tour.

I looked up the wsj author and her other pieces and she indeed is
as lame as I expected she would be... e.g. some of her lame article titles.

Wear what ever you feel the most comfy in. Try to make sure one item is Stones related though.
