Lucinda Williams DVD live from Austin was a great vechile to showcase her talents
as a singer songwriter and live performer. What I noticed when watching she kind
of reminded me of Dylan when she would jam with her band and mannerisims with
her body and guitar

I love me some good Lucinda Williams. The three albums Carwheels, Essence an World without Tears are all three superb. Then the Live album pulls them all together. Still for soem odd reason she laft of much of Carwheels. The Live album is really a showcase for Pettibone the guitarrist.
The new video is good too. She still has the dark hair.

I'm going to see her for the first time in two weeks

I cant remember the last time I looked forward to a concert so much (and I got front row seats for £20!!)

"Car wheels on a gravel road" has become my favourite album of the 90s. I only wish I'd discovered her sooner

Not only is the new live album superb, but at some recent shows she's showcased up to seven BRAND NEW SONGS, which are really good too!

Man Gazza I'm jealous. Where are you seeing her? I saw her in the south of USA several times. IMO the best place to catch her. Her band is at home there.
I think (again) the addition of Pettibone has added so much spice to her casserole.
"Carwheels" was/is such a fave of mine too. That opening tune "Right in Time" has got to be the most erotic song I have ever heard a woman sing. The 3rd verse....brrrr.
Then "Essence" just blew me away. Those vocals. I still don't understand critics who talk about her "limited" vox.
And WWT once is all the good put together once more. She is just a phenomenal songwrietr.

right in time is awesome has that perfect groove and her vocals are perfect
against the electric guitars.the guitar player reminds me of devo the way he
bobs his head and gets into the groove.

That is the one place I have never seen her play. That is like her home. Thing about Austin is on any given night you can see a top notch performance.

Chelsea - I'm seeing her in Manchester on 26th July

I originally read an unofficial report that there was going to be an extra show on the 25th, but it hasnt happened,as has been the case with a few other Uk dates. Amazingly, her official website doesnt even list any European shows and they dont seem that well promoted. Makes you wonder what they're playing at.

I think Lucinda is playing Austin City Limits in either August or September. For those of you in the US, shes also on Letterman on August 3rd.

I regularly play Drunken Angel, I Think I Lost It, Right In Time on the old guitar, amonst others....or just jam to the album...great sit back on the couch and play music.

Was making out with the girlfriend in the kitchen the other day and You Took My Joy came on, my girl friend says she has a new favorite song...something about the rythem....you will have to play the song and visualize the rythem to which she refers.

Am going to see Lucinda Williams, at the Shepherds Bush Empire, London on sat. 23rd...can't wait...she's fantastic.
Her guitarist, the excellent, Doug Pettibone, used to play, with another of my favourite,singer/songwriters, Kevin Montgomery.

But before Lucinda hits London, i'm going to see Aimee Mann,
on the 16th- bring it on!

Re: Lucinda Williams

Adrian !

Aimee was just great ; she did 10 songs from the forgotten arm.
Her guitar player (from a country where they donot know hairgel) is a true master.
Reminded me a lot of MT.
Listen to the Dear John solo !!
The sound was fabulous at Paradiso.

I've seen her probably 5-6 times over the last 5 years or so, never know what to expect. She has a habit of playing a LOT of new stuff right after it's released (and in fact has a music stand on stage when it is fairly new...only person I've ever seen live do that), like 95% of the show off the new and previous album.

But on the other hand, you may see her a couple months later and she balances the old with the new quite well.

All that being said, she always has a great band and always puts on a great show.

Met her once briefly (after an accoustic show where she debuted 'Joy' before it was out), seemed real nice, just wanted an autograph and security was trying to wave me off and she waved them off.

Lots of posts mention only the last 3 albums, which are good to great...but the 2 previous to them are fantastic ("Sweet Old World" and the one simply titled "Lucinda Williams"); don't dismiss them simply because "Car Wheels" seemed to be a breakthrough, you won't be dissappointed in them and may even like them better.

I like all of her albums, myself. the first two have their moments as well ("Ramblin" and "happy woman blues".

If you like "Sweet old world", you should check out the bootleg which contains the album demos..its as good as the finished album

if you do a search under her name on the various P2P sites like warez and kazaa, you'll find some very nice 'lost' appearances on other people's records too which would be otherwise hard to get...such as "Nothing" which appeared on a Townes Van Zandt tribute album and a cracking version of "Return of the Grievous angel" with David Crosby on a Gram Parsons tribute record.

OpenG,

When visiting Austin, forget Sixth Street for the most part but make sure you go to the Continental Club, Stubbs, and the Saxon...

Unfortunately, Lucinda's European tour has been postponed due to illness (an ear infection I believe)

Dates to be rescheduled at a later date.

I saw her last week at the Beacon in NYC. Bought a single outside after the show started for 1/2 price and sat 15 rows back near Elvis Costello who stole the show with guest appearance on Changed the Locks. Here is the NY Post's review.

July 16, 2005 -- WITH slithery bayou-call vocals, Louisiana country-blues singer Lucinda Williams animated her new double-disc, "Live at the Fillmore," before a packed house of adoring fans at the Beacon Theatre Thursday night.
Always a writer first, Williams is frequently erratic in performance, yet her fans are forgiving, willing to applaud even when she croaks instead of croons.

At this show, she did a little of both, but with a handful of new songs she has road-testing, a cache of well-loved classics and a little help from wannabe twanger Elvis Costello, Williams put on a winning concert of outlaw country.

The combination of Williams and Costello was unexpected and outstanding, one of those fleeting moments in music you want to savor. Hopefully, the pair of songs they performed together has been captured and will be released as on iTunes.

In his signature specs and a black cowboy shirt, Costello accompanied Williams' wail through the fell-out-of-love moaner "Changed the Locks." Costello burned through the song's guitar licks while trading verses with her about how to leave an ex in the dust. They created unforgettable sexual tension.

The pairing on that one demanded that Williams cajole Costello back onstage to play an encore with her a half-hour later. For that, they offered an unrecorded new song called "Jailhouse Tears," an old-school Nashville, George Jones-Tammy Wynette, he-said-she-said duet sung through prison bars.

Accompanied by her three-man back-up band featuring guitarist Doug Pettibone, Williams did OK without her guest star on the smooth "Fruits of My Labor," which was made better by Pettibone' wispy pedal steel guitar work, and the rocking "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings."

When she didn't force her voice into rasp and relaxed, Williams was outstanding.

On "Ventura," it was easy to adore her when she sang, gently pleading to "get swallowed up in an ocean of love."

When she really pushed her voice in a wide-mouth assaults, her tones grated like nails on slate.

But hard-core Williams fans didn't seem to notice as they grooved in their seats, occasionally giving the singer a standing ovation.

Williams deserved the cheers she got for another new tune, "What If," powered by saucy clever wordplay that ignited both cheers and laughter from the house.

Williams' music has heartbreak and humor - kind of like life - and that's why this 52-year-old musician is so revered despite the unevenness of shows that meander from world-weary and dreary to absolutely electric.

Fortunately, at the Beacon, she spent most of the gig completely plugged in.

I'm in the process of downloading it...it should be excellent quality

if youre familiar with how bit torrents work, its very easy to use.

However it has a membership cap of 100,000 which its reached and if you want to join, you might have to come back every so often to try and register - every so often members get kicked off for not sharing or if their account is inactive, so its worth trying.

Theres been quite a few Lucinda torrents on there of late.

Been listening to Lucinda for the past few years - she's fantastic. Live at the Fillmore has to be one of the best live albums I've ever had the pleasure of listening to IMCO.

Love Essence as well. This is a singer that I can thank my mother for introducing me to!

was apparently 'sick' last July...a 16 month delay -
but i trust it will be worth it.

Have been a fan of Pettibone's playing, since his days with Kevin Montgomery.
