What's the "heaviest" Stones song?

Anything even remotely "metal-esque"? My vote might be the '75 tour's version of Hand of Fate. Love the loud, overdriven guitars.

If The Stones have a "Helter Skelter" it's SFM...

I've always thought Hold On Your Hat is heavy.

HYSYMBSITS is certainly up there. I think Heartbreaker (Doo Doo Doo) would be up there too.

Stray Cat Blues is pretty heavy, but metal-esque is not a description I'd give to any of the Stones tunes. Hard Rock at times is about as far as they've swung into the truly heavy. I wish the current Stones would actually try a bit harder to be harder, it fit them well and is sorely missing from the polished presentation of the tunes these days.

peace

Agreed. That is the first one I thought of as "heavy".

Jeff Beck showboating on I'm Going Down a few years ago in the 02 was pretty heavy. I loved it but I don't think some of the crowd were quite ready for it.

Ventilator Blues/Monkey Man/Stray Cat Blues are kind of heavy. Not "metal-esques".

They always had the potential for heavy "bottom" but never had a talented enough producer and recording technicians to achieve this on record until much later.

As for heavy "rhythm", this starts seeping in with Between The Buttons on tracks like Miss Amanda Jones and All Sold Out and peaks with Citadel. After this, though, the heaviness of the rhythm attack would be toned down by the inclusion of horns and background singers.

The Stones have always been more basic, all-around rock and roll and rarely achieved the heaviness on records that the Beatles more frequently did, and the Beatles first begin showing this in 1965 with Ticket To Ride.

One Hit To The Body..I had a friend who only listened to Heavy Metal who actually loved this song, and he hated everything else the Stones ever did.

The outro on "Out of Control" must be in the running for some of the band's most intense moments on tape.
