Regardless of whatever, there's not any kind of standout guitaring going on in Brown Sugar in comparison to what they're highlighting. They could've picked so many other songs with Taylor playing his virtuoso soloing.

"Brown Sugar" was a bit odd choice, but "Casino Boogie" was a good pick up.
But I wholeheartedly agree with "Winter". That probably is my all-time favourite lead guitar captured on record. If I'd been Jagger, I had given Taylor a song credit for that. His contribution goes way over normal arrangement - it his guitar that really paints the melodic soundscape and gives the song that special atmosphere. Not to undermine at all Jagger's wonderful vocals. It is my also one of my favourite Stones tracks forever - it has an unique a sort of deep, pious or ardent feel no other Stones tune has. The whole song actually is more like a feel than a song (and damn it represents so well the sentiments I have during wintertime, like exactly now as it has been a cold, cold, long, long winter here...)
The Olson extended solo version is also sublime. Listening to it makes one just wonder what an incredible, imaginative, tasty solo guitarist Mick Taylor at his best is.

Is is that Taylor haven't played in public since 2014 - since his Stones affair? Now to think of it, the band I saw back then was a kind of Dream Team of modern times: not just Taylor, but also still Bobby, Lisa and, of course, Charlie onboard. It is is a pretty different band now.
With or without Taylor "Midnight Rambler" has been a show highlight for me, but of course Taylor made that even more special with his non-predictability. Unfortunately I didn't catch him live on any other tunes (pl. acoustic in "Satisfaction").
Despite how great it was to see him with them, I guess having that 'quest' status and carrying him all over the world for one or two songs per show, was a bit odd. I understand Bill refusing it (maybe he had afford to say no). Naturally that kind of settlement wasn't to last forever, no matter how much it hurt when it ended.
In a theory it sounds like a wasted oppurtunity - for not using Taylor more since he was there - but who knows about the band dynamics and all of that back then. The Stones haven't been that eager to make any radical changes for ages, unless it is necessary (like with Charlie). Keith commented after Taylor stint that he initially liked the idea of three guitars, but in reality that didn't worked that well. Makes me wonder how much try they actually gave to it. Probably enough for Keith to make the conclusion.
But all the good and health to wonderful Mick Taylor in his retirement(?).

I am too lazy to read all the thread.
I know renowned and knowledgeable users in this forum, with proven access to reliable information, stated that Mick Taylor made a terrible mistake in or after the tour in which he played. But they did not elaborate on it. Money or management wise it seems. And it meant the end of his involvemnt.
does anybody have a clue?

As far as I understood and hear it it Mick Taylor didn't play a note on the Sticky Fingers Brown Sugar studio version. No doubt the usual posters will soon confirm this.

Me too! I have been mesmerized by this song also. The lyrics, vocals and guitar
create the exact feelings I had growing up in MA, taking care of my horse in a frigid barn and living for the spring that would take forever to come, if at all. I remember I always wished I was in CA too lol. What I can't believe though is that I didn't really know this song until just recently! I downloaded it and was stopped in my tracks when listening to it in its entirety! Mick T’s guitar is gorgeous and Mick J’s vocals are so amazing. Sad but hopeful.
