Tommy - the Taylor as insurance was BS... bottom-line - Charley,Keith and Ronnie
all wanted Taylor to be included, it was Jagger who said: Stones are a 2-guitar band - period.. would love to see a one night show - recorded - doing all the 70's albums, and include Taylor & Wyman!!!! For us "old" Stones fans!!!
I don't know how you can be so sure about that....
...apart from that, as the Stones don't play "road versions" of their songs anymore that allow a bit more jamming and largely stick to their recorded arrangements, Taylor is simply a waste. I think that was the main problem with his "comeback". Apart from Rambler and a small handful of other numbers (Sway/Knocking) he just did not fit in anymore, and that has to do with the Stones' unwillingness or unability to change their routine. Taylor doing a nice lick here and there on Slipping Away or Streets Of Love or playing acoustic guitar on Satisfaction - gimme a break...

From my perspective of having seen Taylor with the stones ALOT live since he came back & watched/listened to every performance on youtube part of your comment is abit insulting.
yes he definitely fitted in, the parts he played on Streets of Love (lets be honest the original lead riff on that is dog piss by the way - id be embarrassed to have to play that!!), Slipping Away, Satisfaction (when with an electric - check out his last time when on it before relegated to the AC) CYHMK, Midnight Rambler, Silver Train & Sway were great!!
Its not always about being the lead show off - what he added to stuff like slipping away, streets of love for example were subtle embellishments that added and elevated these songs and for me gave an all too brief view into what the band could done. It was this that excited me the most as it offered a tantalising glimpse into what could been.
His stuff on MR CYHMK Sway is virtuoso for sure and i expected that platform from those songs. if you ever get the chance check out his shanghai MR - incredible edgy dynamic dangerous.
Ive said it before and ill say it again, Taylor elevates the stones, and the stones elevates him - together they sound like a BEAST!!
he didn't get invited and thats a shame
Im very very grateful to hear him back with them and gutted it didn't carry on.
But 70 yr olds spending the time to find the spaces and work the gars in a 2.5 hr set was never gonna happen. they play the parts they played for years, they don't practice much, and they don't invest the time needed to bed in a 3rd gtr. If you play you know what i mean, if you don't apologies but it takes ALOT of time, effort and being switched on in every song to make it work.
i just don't think they wanted to invest all that time, effort, memory skills etc when they could just go back to play the same parts as have done for last 20 + years and play them great they do. but thats not the issue. the issue is they just didn't want it for whatever reason.

I remember those 2013 gigs and I thought it was really cool that Mick T. was playing on some songs that he wasn't originally on-Satisfaction, Slipping Away...IMO he should have played the whole gig every night. THAT would have been something!Quote

Taylor doesn't like to be on tour and does't like big concerts - as also mentioned by Ronnie.
Taylor has a good relationship with the other ones in his own way - he is a quite guy and that is it.
As an insurance for Stones - yes that dates back to 1977 when Mick J called Mick T to be able to substitute Keith if he went to jail because of drug problems in Canada.

More like HE doesn’t care to put them up there.
I could record a song tonight that nobody would care about and get it up there.

I thought it had something to do with different labels and the legal issues conserning the rights to the music. Anyway it's too bad. I dont have cd player, not even in my car anymore...

He must have made enough dough from his Stones tour to live comfortably for some time. He hasn't popped his head up since.
