If there is one thing missing at IORR, it's more threads about the Brian Jones era and appreciation of early Jagger/Richards songs, the brilliance of Jack Nitzsche, etc. However, it probably shouldn't be part of the ongoing Mick Taylor thread.

You Can't Always Get What You Want 1973 live, London, Sept. 8 First Show

MT plays some of his Winter solo at 5.40 mark . Great that he used some of those licks later on in Winter.

Maybe we can combine things here: Brian Jones stated that he didn't like the musical direction the Stones were going to. He wanted do his own thing. Mick Taylor had the same sort of issues, thank God he survived. Both Jones and Taylor left after 5 years. Some similarities here?

Brian didn't leave after 5 years.

Brian didn't leave after 5 years.

Indeed, Brian got sacked, Taylor sacked himself (didn't Brian in a way?) A pity in both cases.

Entirely different situation with Taylor after Jones departure.

conflating things does not work for me in this instance.
Mick left the band when several of them were damaging themselves,
Jimmy Miller too, an essential person in all this.
The Stones were on a different sort or precipice around '68...
Brian had been mostly out because of his own behaviors and other dynamics
we know about, (the gorgeous trembling slide on No Expecations noted at the
end or his membership.
Taylor was getting out to save his life and
Brian, for whatever varied reasons, was out to a large extent
because of a lot of convoluterd personal and professional circumstances.
He and Taylor are not songwriters; and their function and utility in the
band were hugely different and tho it's not really fair to compare,
cause I ADORE the early stuff and listen to that as much as Exiles, Bleed and Sticky...and am not interested in putting Brian's work down...
...but even on rhythm guitar; we can see that mick's most basic rhythm
parts were hugely and foundationally dynamic. Keith in many ways at his
absolute best with that kind of unity of vision and suport.
Taylor's talent, like Bill's was taken for granted by the Glims,
so busy with their own unique positions in the band.

Brian left after more than five years, though.

I think Brian and Taylor wanted to stick to the blues. Blues purists. Even though Brian was into world music also. Trying new instruments and such. Which was a trend in the sixties.
The "modern" Rolling Stones, from 69 and forward, is very much a product of The Glimmer Twins.

Brian was very proud of JJF.

Good to know, Dandy. I freely admit to have gaps in my RS knowledge! But the combined knowledge on IORR is something!

Formation in spring 1962 - to the moment Taylor first played with them in 1969 is not 5 years.

It's not about time span, but the musical input they both delivered. Both great.

of couse it is. the scrappy little monster worked really hard
to throw the whole mess together thru a LOT of hard work, press shmoozes,
want-ads for players and uh, a few passed the audition...
...and he was a looker and had his own vibe going...
...some of it so touchingly sensitive and sweet,
some a little rascally, seems he was quite the little sob with the ladies...
...but...hey i dunno...and so incadescent...beautiful....
..certainly fashionable and classy were the first impressions from the
early press shots in the first few years after they made it in the States.
and also something really creepy and leering and weird sometimes too...
in a way...complicated little hooligan angel; a natural intuitive and instinctive musician...brilliant colors and touches...that too

super. and i'm a taylorite so go figure?
well, my first five years with the band until Brian left,
album by album; each anticipated and snatched immediately upon
first pressings in North American East Coast. big apple.
so my 'relationship' with him as a fan goes pretty deep.
there was a time when Brian was blowing harp on vids I've seen,
and pretty up front, paralell (sp?) to Mick. and holding the
Front as a co-front guy almost; at least that was my feeling
because i was attracted to him visually. Aside from jags where
we expect monkey business and posing; and would bitch if we didn't get it,
Brian seemed the 'paulie' in the group (i hate those stinking beetle boy band dam them)
as it seemed he was more looking directly into the camera here and there...
the kind of thing George would make fun of and funny faces about on Dick Cavett, all raising his eyebrows and looking sweeet in the camera for a second dead-on hard and perfect; sly george.
anyway.
anybody got a link for a good teacher who will teach me some scales of that
major minor thing that Taylor seems to have brilliantly and orginally
mixed together for his style. boy i can play that editied longass version
of Winter all day and night; and sometimes it seems almost like that.
gorgeous.
I mean play it on youtube; not on guitar. i'm pretty basic on the guitar
but last year i started to practice more seriously. ty.

No , I didn't highlight it,, it was the last few words my initial post. . Besides, it's not very relevant, since Wood is a Stones Clerk for 44 years already. I leave the rest to Hopkins.
