What was on his mind while he played here?

[docs.google.com]

Wow, that is a perfect version! Splendid!
Is it somewhere on YouTube too?

I uploaded it several times to YT, but every time it was banned worldwide. Very strange when you realize that other songs from Glastonbury are on YT. At first I thought the Glastonbury show would be released in the future, but that's not the case. So there must be another reason. Perhaps band politics, because Taylor is so prominent on this performance.

He is prominent on Rambler as well. It's strange...

They can't keep The Knebworth Wild Horses up at Youtube either...and Ronnie sounds great there. It IS strange....

That's a nice, artistic take on it. I agree, and I prefer Ronnie doing it his own way.

If Ronnie could twist Rod's arm to be one of the one off special guests on this tour it would work better...

I have seen people disguise these often removed vids on YouTube by starting with something different for the first minute then editing the video into the last part of the file. Not sure it it still works but it's possible these computer assisted watchdogs only look at the first part of the uploaded files.

Taylor was the icing on the cake...and sweet butter frosting it was.

Spot on.

In my eyes that opinion does Taylor short as an important and integral element of the band. It was more than "the icing of the cake". His contribution was an integral part of the cake, making the heart of the cake better too.

I didn't mean to sell him short. Of course he's integral to the sound at that time. So here's a new analogy: they were already flying high before he joined, but Taylor was the booster rocket that took them to the next level.

That seems to be a very adequate metaphor to me.

Terrible or just too quiet? It's really quite hard to tell a lot of the time because he's so low in the mix. He could really do with some more overdrive these days - although I do think it's telling that a lot of what Taylor does on this song (other than the solo) is basically just doubling Keith's part.

Got to trust the FOH mixer to know what to keep low in the mix, unfortunately, there is probably good reason he's turned down. He certainly isn't nailing the riffs here like he used to, but like you, I'd love to hear him turned up with some overdrive on a tune like this.

As far as Taylor doubling Keith parts, I don't think it was to cover for Keith like you insinuate as much as it is just the only real guitar part to play to reinforce that tune, Ronnie's got all the fills covered. Personally I would have preferred to hear Taylor doing the fills, but Ronnie isn't known to give up his little parts to guests. When I saw them in San Jose the last tour with Bonnie Raitt, she tried to do some sweet slide fills, but much to my disappointment, Ronnie just blazed through his parts, leaving no room for Bonnie....who would have killed on those fills if given the chance.

What's sad about this tune is the end, where they thank MT and send him back to his room. Who wouldn't want more of that! I'm like DON"T GO AWAY!" please please keep him there for more tunes! Oh well. smoking smiley

The entire Glastonbury CYHMN version sounds like a flat tyre to me, almost nothing rhymes, with the exception of a few notes coming from Taylor and Keys (God bless him) in the second part. They can be glad they have session players up there, Don Was, Darryl Jones and the backing vocals, and to a certain extent, Charlie Watts. If they had played like this in '72 or '73, they probably would have wiped the entire track immediately.

Yes, he was special in 1973. Here an excerpt of a the end of a concert with Billy Preston. After having played with that support act he just played with the Stones!
Man, this really swings, and now it has been proven Taylor not only was a great rhythm player, but also a damn funky one.

As much as I love MT, I too think this stuff with Preston is difficult to listen to. Much better examples of his work from that period out there.

I think it really has more to do with them just choosing a location that doesn't have easy access to people who are going to report what's going on. But I am secretly hoping it is because they have some huge surprises, like Taylor playing the entire club gig(s) or more than a couple unexpected tunes which would blow the die hard fans away like Let It Loose!

If Mick Taylor was as good as some claim he is then he would not need to ride the coat tails of a band he quit 40 years ago. He would do his own album and do his own tour. grinning smiley

Thanks for the advice, Yeah, I see them always getting uppity with anyone who doesnt toe the line, I just wonder as this thread keeps getting constantly bumped up why taylor doesnt just do his own thing.

Most of us wish he would, and he probably will at some point, but his abilities as a musician have nothing to do with how active he is. Jeff Beck's as good as they get, but has spent most of his career only touring when he needs to raise money for his hotrod projects.
