I apologize off the bat because its probably something that is common knowledge to most of you, but as Gomer Pyle use to say, 'Well, Go-olly..'
I had no idea until I heard the DJ on the radio mention it.
Its a killer solo!

Ha! Y'all are funny..
I didn't even realize what the hell you meant until I reread the thread title! I didn't even name the song (Hate Myself For Loving You)
Seriously, was I the only one who didn't know this?

He should have gotten some nice change for his contribution; royalites and constant radio play.

It even says it on Wikipedia.

"I Hate Myself for Loving You" is a 1988 song from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and the first single from the album Up Your Alley. The song reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100,[1] Jett's third single to reach the Top 10, but her first since "Crimson and Clover" in 1982. Former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor played the guitar solo in the song.[2]

Joan Jett is a national treasure. She's the hardest rocking woman in the business and a Killer song-writer as well. Like Reg said, I can't wait to see her open for the Who.

Since this is an international forum, I'd say she is a world wide treasure. smoking smiley

I saw her at a show in Brandon, Mississippi in September 1994 (or October) at a place called The Dock and it was incredible.

Who fans have a history of being pretty brutal to opening acts, hard for me to imagine a better band for ridicule than Joan Jett. Thankfully for Joan Jett most of the Who fans are older and more mature but I don't expect her to be well received. peace

I would think Joan Jett would be very well received by Who fans. She isn't some newbie.

Love JJ. Never had a clue that was MT playing lead.

So me, Elmo Lewis and Latebloomer...
that makes three of us~
It was a revelation to me because its one of those songs I hear all the time on classic rock radio, and loved that short, but blistering solo, but had no idea who I was loving.

No not a newbie but musically she seems miles from the authentic, original rock of The Who. Her hits seem like manufactured poser rock by comparison. Give me Nancy Wilson, Bonnie Raitt or Chrissie Hynde any day. smoking smiley

peace

She rocks. I will be in London when the Who play Hyde Park....thinking about going. If JJ was in the line-up, I would have already bought my tickets.

I think she opened for the Who in the past. Maybe one of the farewell tours?
1982 maybe?

He also received a gold album for his contribution on the song. Not sure if he still has it, saw it back in 93.

Is Joan opening for The Who for all their shows? I'll be seeing them in September in Vancouver. I saw Joan several years ago when she opened for Aerosmith in Van. I thought she would be okay and I knew a few of her songs but I was very impressed that I knew most of the songs and she was really well received. I think she got a career boost after the Runaways movie came out.
Mark me down as another who didn't know MT played on her song!
