If Let it Bleed was a double album what else could have been on it?

I think Beggars Banquet had enough material for a double album.

LIB? Hm, Downtown Suzie, Family, Jiving Sister Fanny, I Don't Know Why, I'm Going Down + some of the Jamming With Edward-tracks...

A double album? I am not one for historical revisionism. But if it was a double album I think it would have rivaled Exile. Perhaps their white album? Leave Country Honk on and add Honkey Tonk! Be cool. Jiving Sister Fanny. Loving Cup. Aladdin Story. Cocksvucker Blues! That would have been a mind bender. Lots of great stuff that could have been on Let it Bleed double.

I don't think swapping out a song and adding another one would justify a double album.

True, but this isn't just another bootleg, it's very well put together. Add that to the fact that this song SOUNDS way more BB than LIB.

Interesting. Aladdin Story is often lumped in with Potted Shrimp and Trident Jam. Also, I didn't realize All Down the Line was that old, did Taylor play on that version?

Funny, they wanted to Do two LPs. Sticky Fingers was announced for december, instead the trough the past darkly LP was Released, so, nearly a double....

Deluxe Editions would be great of BB & LIB

I dont understand why they never released the dark dopeish sister morphine soundalike "blood red wine" on beggars or let it bleed.

Maybe substitute sister morphine with loving cup, but I'm sure it would have been the electric version as we have as an outtake and similar to the Hyde Park version; but we would never have gotten the wonderful piano version on Exile.

An expanded Let It Bleed would be watered down. The nine-track album is perfect, the best album they ever made. Don't mess with perfection. It's the Stones' Who's Next.

Perhaps not a double album but I would've swapped few songs. I definitely would have included I'm Going Down and I Don't Know Why. And Midnight Rambler should've been a faster song. Now it's like dragging tons of steel without wheels. Brilliant song but only when played live.

I think LET IT BLEED contains the strongest material in any of their albums; it represents the very peak of Mick and especially Keith as song-writers. The variance goes between transcendental masterpieces and 'just' excellent tracks, but still I think as an album is not so perfect as BEGGARS, STICKY and EXILE (and maybe even SOME GIRLS) are. The sequence of the songs, or how to the tracks fit to each other, is something I would not call perfect. It's more like a collection of great songs. That's always been my brief concern in regards to this masterpiece album - some minor problem with the 'flow', or how it sounds as a whole. But the thing is that the material is simply just so strong that it doesn't matter. With that material they simply couldn't do wrong.

Since there are just so many highlights - none of their albums contain as many war horses (and quite many other songs are also played rather much during modern era tours), and none of them is a single hit - I don't know if a double album would not have been such a bad idea after all. Maybe some 'lesser' songs might have given the album a bit more room to breathe...

As a whole I prefer Exile on Main Street, but Le Tt Bleed has the strongest lp side of all: Side B.
Wasn't it more likely that Sticky Fingers had to be a double lp? I think it has been already discussed that SF would have been a double lp with all the Decca copyrights only -- whereas Exile would have been a single lp with all Rolling Stones Records copyrights.
The song Let It Bleed has never been a favourite of mine and Midnight Rambler and Love In Vain won when played live over their studio versions.
So Divine would be a perfect replacement becauser it became a top song for me with Exile revisited but the Trident Mixes Version then doesn't hind at being an lp contender.
