It starts like this

"You call yourself a christian
I think you are a hypocrit
..full off shit"...

If its true, man what a letdown... Politics is one thing. Religion is another. I hope we dont get another "Must Be Hell".

"You call yourself a christian

Glad to know you and SENDER are so tolerent.
If it was "Moslem" or "Jewish" you'd probably be screaming "how horrible!"
Besides, let's see what the rest of the lyrics are like. that's only 3 lines...
and pretty juvenile at that.

Re: Neocon

Stay calm, tomk.
Noone says that there are hypocrit leaders who speak in the name of ONLY one religion. Hmmm... That talk reminds me the lyrics of SFTD:
"I watched with glee while your kings and queens fought for decades for the gods they made..."
But after all agree, let's see all the lyrics.

I just know that is time to say the truth about Bush and others leaders, that kills people more than Saddam or Bin Laden did, i know ost of you are with their point of view (Bush and others) but it does not mean that they are correct, i cant wait to hear what the Stones has to say...

Re: Neocon

"that kills people more than Saddam or Bin Laden did,"

Really? Care to put some numbers up @#$%&?

Look...the one thing that is great about the Stones is that they rarely get into politics. Do you really want to go to a show and hear them preach like Bono or Springsteen or Jackson Brown or some of the others? I don't. I want to hear music and hear them rock. I don't need any bullshit song by some men who don't know what they are talking about.

Talk about hypocrytes...the Stones did that stupid Global Warming benefit show and how did they get there? Jet.

Re: Neocon

Oh, I'm calm here, Sticky. And SENDERM, this has nothing to do with Bush.
The whole "Christian-hypocrite" Christian-bashing" thing is SO OLD.
Are there Christians who are hypocrites? Sure. I agree with that.
Am I? I hope not. I try not to be. If I am, I'm called on it and agree.
Being Christian myself, I've heard it all. And my wife is Jewish,
and she's heard it all, too.
I'm more interested in the music. If it's a great song, I'll blast it
from my speakers. I don't censor stuff in my house, unless it's bad.
BEsides, I blast various versions of Star Star
from my stereo almost daily. Does that make me a hypocrite of what you think Christians are? No...and I can back it up.

Anyway wait until the album, we have diferent point of view, so dont make this board political, there are a lot of them out there, friends?

Re: Neocon

No problem there. I agree.
As I said on another post, I don't want to turn it into
a sociology class. Let's talk about the music.
SENDER is correct. Let's don't make this board political.

Bush doesnt represent Christianity. I never said anything against criticism, nor did I imply anything about censorship. I'm just disappointed to hear Christianty bashing in any of the music I love. I got nothing against Jagger doing his share of Bush-bashing. Everyone has their points. It has nothing to do with being tolerant either, its just my opinion. You dont see me throwing away my collection.

Oh really in what way has Bush and Sharon which you of course are reffering to killed people out of share joy? Bin Ladin and Saddam like to kill people, they started off killing their own before killing other civilians on purpose without even being i n war

I think that the line, as it is, is everithing but an attack vs. christianity, or the values expressed by chritianity. I read it simply

You call yourself a christian

(i.e. a person who CLAIMS to act in the name of certain well known principles)

I think you are a hypocrit

(i.e. a person that de facto does not apply those principles)

Could be anyone.

We know three lines, it can happen anything in the fourth line.

BUT, if our dear soon to be 62 year old billionaire is trying to ride on this wave of anti-americanism to claim rebel status among the kids, then I'm afraid the mighty Stones will end their career as an emabrrasment.

Anyone who is willing and able to send out criticims of the Bushies is okay in my book. J.J. Cale had never written a such a song until his last album. This administration just brings out the "best" in some, it seems....

You are right Stonestod. Look at Steve Earle. "The Revolution starts now". it's sad but true. These guys (USA administration) is so bad that even people who normally stay out of this shit can't keep from raising their voice.

Well millionaires are all supposed to be right-wing? Or artists not deal w/ whats going on nin their purview? Why do you think its all (song subject matter) calculated to attract 'the kids'?

Of course John R all rich are right wing. The only that are left wing are people who want to profit on other people's work or have complete power in society.

Please do NOT use this thread as an excuse to tell others how great you are and how great your country is vs. all others. Politics are banned from this site unless they relate directly to the Stones. Please no more endless discussions about how good or bad I or you or my or your country is. We are all the same. Really.

Yes but France is the real helper there not the US. The US has to deal with scumbags like Bin Ladin and Sadam because the world is full of threats against democracy and freedom. Bin Ladin represents himself and his gang of fanatics - he is not the same as the American president or the Finnish president or the Swedish Primeminister who are all chosen in elections to represent their people. USA didnt force Sadam to do shite, he is the one to blame not the US. I'm glad that that US is still and hopefully for some time the leading power of the world. Or maybe you prefer Russia? China? Iran? Read a lot more please...

Yawn, Yawn, Yawn,
Come up with a new argument. America is evil bLahh, bLahh, bLahh. We've heard it before. Jagger needs to understand that the Leaders like Bush are the only ones standing up to Muslim terrorists who would love to destroy a Western Icon like the Stones.
America has done more to spread freedom and liberty around the globe What has any Asian, Muslim, or European country done to stop madmen. We have made mistakes many times at the behest of choosing between bad or worse. I love the Stones but I do not what to pay them good money to have them ride a wave of PC and cram thier oppressive views down my throat. IF it wasn't for The USA, The Stones would not have existed. And Americans generally do not always understand those in Europe and abroad. That is the truth. But those in Europe and abroad certainly do not understand America and that certainly includes our Stones. However I it will be interseting to hear how the whole song plays out.

...at least we are not arguing about vibrato.

Good god, you folks act as if a British band's lyrics have relevance to public policy. This is very funny--how much did "Street Fighting Man" affect the parliament in 1968?

This thread seems to be a good opportunity for forumers to puff themselves up with self-importance on political issues.

My friends, it has no place here.
