Never heard about that, would be a nice findsmiling smiley

Yep,

If you begin to inventory spelling or printing errors on the disc sleeves it will be endless, and it has very little to do with the music.

Just out of interest, does DECCA have any involvement/income from the Stones now?
Or is the pre 70's material solely owned by ABKCO?

ABKCO Music owns the 1960s songs, all the songs on STICKY FINGERS and a few songs on EXILE.

Only WH and BS (possibly SM) + SAL and LC (possibly SBA)?

yeah, I don't believe it's all the songs on Sticky Fingers either.

All the songs on SF are ABKCO Music, the same as the songs on LET IT BLEED and BEGGARS and so on. The Stones may own the masters...

I don't think so, because SF was their first album on Rolling Stones Records, and only a couple of the tracks, produced in the 60s, were owned by ABKCO.

This is what I have read about DECCA, ABKCO, SF and the rights in every publication I've come over so far:

"With the end of their Decca/London association at hand, The Rolling Stones would finally be free to release their albums (cover art and all) as they pleased. However, their departing manager Allen Klein dealt the group a major blow when they discovered that they had inadvertently signed over their entire 1960s copyrights to Klein and his company ABKCO, which is how all of their material from 1963's "Come On" to Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! The Rolling Stones in Concert has since come to be released by ABKCO Records. The band would remain incensed with Klein for decades over the act.

When Decca informed The Rolling Stones that they were owed one more single, they cheekily submitted a track called "@#$%& Blues",[5] which was guaranteed to be refused. Instead, Decca released the two-year-old Beggars Banquet track "Street Fighting Man" while Klein would have dual copyright ownership, with The Rolling Stones, of "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses".

Why Klein didn't have ownership over Sister Morphine, Loving Cup, Shine A Light, All Down The Line and Sweet Black Angel is a bit baffling, though...

Ahhh, wikipedia.

Look at the liner notes on STICKY FINGERS and EXILE and then on whatever other album some of those songs are on, like STRIPPED. They are all ABKCO Music.

Aside from that one compilation it is interesting that the only reissues of any of those songs are the only singles from STICKY FINGERS and nothing else. Must be some sort of no man's land between ABKCO and the Stones...

There's a difference between the music publishing rights (=the composition) and the actual recording master rights = the actual recorded performance. It's also reflected by the mention of two different companies - ABKCO Music for the publishing, ABKCO Records for the master recordings. Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are clear cases where ABKCO controls both separate rights because they were shown in the Gimme Shelter movie from 1969, so the songs must have been WRITTEN and RECORDED by then, which indeed they were! Some other songs were written while under contract to ABKCO, but recorded at later dates, so the publishing in these cases is owned by ABKCO Music, but ABKCO Records has no access to the masters of the recorded performances.

It's confusing, I know, and indeed it took even the Stones and ABKCO some time, effort and even hassle to sort out exactly what material is owned by which party, in particular the material from the "transition period" as there really was no "clear cut" in legal terms and the ownership of publishing rights and master recording rights were debatable in some cases.

Not actually totally true to say ABKCO owns all pre 70s product.
In regards to music publishing rights, the earliest compositions, eg Stoned, Tell Me and a few others are controlled by Songs of Peer Ltd/ Peermusic.
At some point these copyrights must have purchased from Southern Music, the original owners.

And we must not forget that both ABKCO and The Stones collaborates on archive releases nowadays.

Of course, but the discussion here revolved around the "period of transition" from ABKCO Music and ABKCO Records to Promotone B.V. and Promopub B.V. and that's what I was referring to, not the earliest compositions.

- Almost hear You Sigh - promo remix

I've been aware of this for years, still never heard it.

There's the edit version, which is on HOT STUFF - the studio recordings. I never saw the CD single and have never heard the remix.

The Promo-CD with the 'Almost Hear You Sigh' Remix is available at [www.discogs.com] .

Dunno if it is worth it since the Remix-Version is a little bit shorter (4:00 mins) than the LP-Version (4:36 mins) ....

Almost forgot the original subject on this thread, - though a lot of it, has been very interesting to read !
Thanks !

Don´t think this one has been mentioned yet :

"(Can´t Seem To) GET A LINE ON YOU"

released as a bonustrack on Leon Russels 1970 album "DOC" -
on it´s 1993 CD-release.
It´s a "Shine a Light" - outtake, and the cover states "Leon Russel
as composer, - Mick is singing, - and Ringo plays the drums "

I´m however, pretty sure, that this was written due to copyright-matters !
It´s a genuine Stones-outtake, - but OFFICIALLY released !

Good choice! Not available widely (not counting boots, of course), and the Leon Russell DCC gold release was quite limited, too. It's not on any other versions of the album, btw.!

Mitch - so what's the story on "Claudine"? It was included on a full LP 1st pressing of "Emotional Rescue"? Never heard about that, thought it was always an outtake...

"Rarest Officially Released Stones Track" -
Quite a subject ! -
Gave my little "Woouf" with : (Can´t seem to) GET A LINE TO YOU, -
and a lot of tracks has already been brought up -

From personal experience :

"Tell me", - alternate take, 2.52, on first runnings on No.1 (already mentioned )

"Rock and a Hard Place" - "Rock Mix Edit" - 5.49 - from EXTREMELY rare promo-CD -
"Terrifying" - Columbia CSK 1897 -
- In my point of view, - perhaps the RAREST of them all ! !
- (and No, - I don´t have it in my collection eye rolling smiley)

"It´s All Over Now", - edited version on early US-7" - removing a whole verse !

"We Love You" - edited version, - 3.10, from VERY rare 7" US-orange-swirl promo,

"Star Star" - obscure and vandalised version, from South African LP-release of Goats Head Soup, - 1973

"Sexdrive" - Edited Club Version - from rare Japan-promo-CD

- but it is also a matter of definition !

Is it a "Different" version of the song ? - or just a minor change . . .

The BIGGERBANGINSTORESAMPLER is the unique source of censored album-version of
"Rain fall Down"
by just erasing ONE single word -

and then there is the Mono / Stereo - issue . . . . .

The "Wild Horses" - short promo-version, - STEREO -
seems to be pretty rare ! -
- as well for the edited Jumpin Jack Flash ! - STEREO

not to mention "Faraway Eyes" - MONO !

So what is RARE ? -
well, - a natural definition would be :
The Single Source Of A Unique Track, - manufactured in the lowest number
of copies ! ! !

I won´t be the one, - to nominate that ! ! ! drinking smiley
