How did you find out IORR?
Posted by: zumabitch ()

I found it a long time ago, when my modem used to work at 56 Kb and I could make a cup of coffee or roll a cigarette while waiting for some Junoesque breast to fill my screen in its glorious plenitude. Tired of porn at “Continental Drift speed”, I was searching content about the Stones and the IORR site was suggested to me by BOMIS, a search engine / portal that doesn't exist anymore, I guess. (BOMIS was a peculiar portal, every day they used to add some ironic or surreal slogan on top of the page, like “We know, we know, … we are wasting our lives too”).

Then, 9 or 10 years ago, Bjornulf was probably saturated by zillions of gigabytes of posts (data storage was more problematic at the time, I suppose), and decided to erase everything. It was a drastic change, like the transition from the Cretaceous to the Paleogene period in the earth's timescale, with a mass extinction of most of the “species” strolling around on IORR. If my memory doesn't betray me, Dandelion Powderman survived this apocalyptic end of a world, I don't recognize or remember other names, but probably many of us have resurrected under a new nickname... (to add an epic touch to the continuing saga, lean your monitor at a 45 degree angle and move it forward).

With all the text based content, it always shows up on search engines near the top of the list when searching anything Stones related. I think I found the great Timeisonourside site first and then IORR. Just loved the simple, quick loading, easy to use forum format...blows away anything else out there. Thanks for that Bjornulf, you nailed it. peace

I was searching for info about the Stones's new album at the time, Bridges To Babylon. Your memory serves you well, zumabitch smiling smiley

I truly don't remember how I found it many years ago, more than what my profile shows. I'm just glad I did find it. Best site I have come across and many "interesting" members.

I used Alta Vista as well smiling smiley

Didn't Bjørnulf launch the online IORR 20 years ago? The fanzine/fanclub started 35 years ago.

Stumbled upon reading links to Stones info. I remember using Alta Vista as a gateway and dealing with a dial up modem. Using these two modes of access seems like another lifetime and lifestyle ago.

It was in late 2006 or early 2007, and I made quite a few friends here.

But I don't remember how I stumbled across this site

Someone told me about IORR at The Rolling Stones Concert in Los Angeles in 2006. And I'm very happy to be a member now. I told also people, who I met in Zurich, Vienna & Düsseldorf before the Stones Shows, about this great forum.

Rolling Stones fans are the best music fans in the world and because of that, a Rolling Stones concert is even more fun as it already is!!

I came on this site for years to read the concert reviews and look up set lists. I think I probably just found it doing a Yahoo Search on The Rolling Stones. (Im pretty sure it was pre-google). The first time it was around '99. It wasn't until '06 that I finally joined Tell Me. I also looked up lyrics a lot on Keno's Rolling Stones site and went on Rock Off for a historical look at set lists. It was so much fun learning about this band.

Found it via a link on a site (no longer running) that used to be run in Australia by an old friend of mine, Jaime C********. A few years before the Licks tour, can't remember exact;y when.

Jaime used to hook me up with Crystal Cats....and download a heap of boots for me.

He now works at a record company in IT....

...sort of like the pyromaniac running a fire station!!! ;-)

First heard about it while posting on a now defunct board called Brian Jones - Like A Rolling Stone in 2007 and 2008. Occasionally a poster would bring up IORR in threads with a link, saying something like "Have you seen the discussion they're having over on IORR on such and such a topic?"

Then in 2012 while regularly checking the Stones News site, which I would call up through Google, the link for IORR would be there on page 1 and I started reading through threads, and then after a few weeks, thinking I might have contributions to make as well, I signed up.

In 2002 I had a ticket to see the Stones at the Tacoma Dome and I wanted to know the set lists of their previous shows on that tour. So, in searching the web for that information, I stumbled across IORR. Glad I did!

I think that back in 2001 or so, when you googled (pardon: infoseeked of altavista-ed) 'rolling stones fanclub', you'd come across iorr, and that informal community that an internet forum is was the most resembling thing to a fanclub you could have, since an official one did not exist (and still doesn't really). Of course real fanclubs had no future anyway.

I started posting after the Oberhausen show back in 2003, had a very frequent and mostly ridiculous output up to the end of the BB tour and after that I somewhat grew over it, with intervals of more than a year bweteen posts... Anyway that's what I learn from the search engine.

Nice saga. I remember it, must have been somewhere late 2004. However, only the threads were deleted, no usernames as far as I recall. But indeed, it caused a storm! winking smiley

That's correct. Remember the new, green board design that was tried out? That caused quite an uproar here grinning smiley
