There's plenty of great and current country music out there. Just need to open your eyes and ears.

One of my favorites although their sound is a gumbo of influences.

What some of you are calling country songs by the Stones aren't country songs!

With regards to country, I always thought Micks approach was a bit tongue in cheek, an homage but also making fun of it in a way.

Well, his words exactly:

Mick Jagger, 1995: "I love Country music, but I find it very hard to take it seriously. I also think a lot of country music is sung with the tongue in cheek, so I do it tongue in cheek. The harmonic thing is very different from the blues. It doesn't bend notes in the same way, so I suppose it's very English, really. Even though it's been very Americanized, it feels very close to me, to my roots, so to speak."

wow...I sort of 'nailed it'.

Do you think I really care?

another great example of tongue in cheek.

I need a yellow cab to help me get outta this pain in the cheek.

Don't judge contemporary country music by what y'all hear on the radio.

Ditto rock music, or any other kind of music, come to that. There's still lots of great stuff out there!

I'd love to see the Stones put out an album of country covers. Jagger's older voice is suited for singing country. Maybe the Stones can turn America on to its country music heritage the same way it turned America on to its Blues heritage.

I dig that idea (at least theoretically). Since Dylan is busy with Sinatra these days, I guess the Stones could be up to to it...

But I am sure Jagger hates the idea. His voice suits damn well, and he has an odd natural ability to do that kind of stuff, but apparantly that would be about the last thing he would ever do... Just to get him sing the blues would be a task enough...

I think he'd be surprised to learn that many people would kill for a Stones Country album as he really doesn't take the genre very seriously, at least from the perspective of their own material/performances.

There was this one interview 'recently' - was it three, five or ten years ago or even more I can't say, this all passes so quickly these days - in which Mick said something to the effect that he could do a country album and people would surely love it, but it is something he doesn't want to do. It doesn't motivate him or something like that.

It could be that this was after the commercial flop of GODDESS and Mick was sort of defending his musical taste or style. He wants to do music that people can dance to I recall him saying.

Does anybody remember the interview I am talking about?

sure your not getting mixed up with a Keith interview from last year where he says a very similar thing when asked about recording a blues album

No, surely not, Rockie. I am good at making confusions, but this time I am sure that it is Jagger talking there, and along the lines I describe here. I've tried to google it, but no success yet...

The Rolling Stones played a few nice country rock songs in the past but it would require some country style session musicians to save country music.

Reminds me of a famous Carlene Carter quote - I put the cu nt in country music.
Country music certainly needs to be saved by somebody.

The savior will be the descendant of the great Hank Williams - Hank III:

It's ROCK music that needs to be saved. Or is that a lost cause?

Does Salt of The Earth from 1968, classify as country genre?
Covered by Joan Baez and Judy Collins I believe.

Rod Stewart has threatened in the past to do a Country album, also a Blues one.
Neither surfaced, as yet.

Country music is dead. It's called Country Music on the radio but it's pop music with a twang for a really dumbed down audience. Kind of like the white version of a rap audience.
you hit it right on the head . could not agree more !!!!!!!!

absolutely true-

don't miss 'Saturday Night Sunday Morning"

what a band, I just saw them a few days ago. Kenny Vaughan guitar, Paul Martin bass, Harry Stinson, drums. And Marty Stuart- as fluid and precise a guitarist as there ever was. plus he's playing Clarence, the modified Telecaster, with the original B-bender, that Clarence White owned and played, and co-invented, with Gene Parsons.

Great to see and hear this band, Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives.
First rate all the way, great harmony singing..coolest outfits..

but the musicianship was second to none

and check out Kenny Vaughan's solo record "V". its the same band. Kenny Vaughan is amazing.
