I had a bootleg that Mick introduced him as "Mac from the Small Faces Pop-a-group".

It really puts things in perspective...we are only here for a short time.

RIP Mac....Thanks for the music and memorys

A sweetheart of a guy. I've been listening to his work and viewing the Hampton '81 DVD and saw both Bobby and Mac playing with the band. The heart strings were properly tugged. Thanks guys. for all of it....

When I heard of Ian's passing I thought about how he would like us to react to it and a song came to mind. The song is Dixie Toot from Rod Stewart's solo album Smiler which Ian played organ on. The last section is what I'm thinking about the most and could most likely include Bobby's feelings as well:

And when the Man Upstairs he calls me
He'll say "It's your turn son to come"
Don't play the blues down in old Toulouse for me
Let sleighbells ring and children sing in the street
And tell all of my friends that I had a good time
Open up the sky won't you ride me high
Let's have a good time
And if I'm late at heaven's gate blame a good time
And when the angels sing I will join in
Let's have a good time really

I took my luck, I didn't give a f#*k, I had a good time
Tell all my friends only all my best to have a good time
Goodbye

It comes in threes. 1) L'Wren 2) Bobby 3) Mac. There's gonna be a whacking New Year's Party in Rock and Roll Heaven this year.

Remember what the musicians gave, don't focus on the loss.

Mac plays keys on Lucinda Williams' latest album "Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone".

You can see the short movie here.

This is the last time I saw him, 4th July this year at London's fantastic Half Moon in Putney.

[louderthanwar.com]

His loss is so tragic, dear o dear. The moral of the story is this; if you love them and they're out there playing, don't pass up an opportunity to see them. Because you just never know when that grim reaper is going to be calling upon them .........

[ I want to shout, but I can hardly speak ]

Thanks for the link Paul.

Must have been a great night at that terrific pub,The Half Moon.

Found this on my FB page with the video.

Giorgio Gomelsky was telling one of our FB friends of the time he booked The Muleskinners at The Crawdaddy Club in Richmond back in the day. He liked them, "...Ian was a good organ player." RIP Ian McLagan.

This is shocking and sad. A Faces reunion was number one on my wish list for future gigs.
I'm Glad I got to see Mac play with Billy Bragg twice in '99. I think he may have been out here in Australia with him a few years ago too, and I passed on that one. Bummer.
I do feel very lucky to have seen Bobby Keys play my local last March though! That was a very special gig and we all knew it at the time. (Plus 12 times with the Stones)

The one and only piano player besides Stew who fits to the Stones. Sad News. I liked his work with the Faces as well.

I agree that Mac was a good fit, but to exclude Nicky Hopkins from that list is preposterous, imo

You're right. I've forgotten him simply.

This was posted on The Who FB page.

'So very sad to hear of the news about Ian McLagan who passed away following a stroke on Wednesday 2 December. The Who and the Small Faces were always very close and Mac was a dear friend in particular of Pete Townshend. Looking back to happier times here is Mac with Pete at SXSW in 2007 doing the Small Faces' classic 'What'cha Gonna Do About It'. RIP Mac.'

I kind of remember a picture from an after party on the '81 tour where Mick was wearing a t shirt that had various mis spellings of Mac's name (McLagen, MacLegen etc).

anyone else recall that?
