Gutted to see the RIP added to this thread. Was just recently amazed by Ian on the Im Losing You video that DandelionPowderman shared on another thread, just fantastic playing. This one was a shocker, no one saw it coming.

Love and prayers for his family and friends.

Not sure how to feel about getting all my obituaries on IORR...kinda makes me scared to log in.

More appreciative of the Stones, wishing I had made the trip to Oz for that great leg of shows and looking at the possible shows in Vegas and Bonneroo with renewed interest.

For now, time to play some blues.

peace

Oh my God! This is just beyond belief. He was supposed to be here in Ann Arbor next Tuesday opening for Nick Lowe. Feeling very pissed at Rod at the moment. Mac wanted that Faces reunion (I mean a real Faces reunion) more than anything, and Rod kept putting it off like they were all gonna live to be 150 or something. Now it's too late. It's gonna be the same with those crazy Kinks brothers. One day, it's just gonna be too damn late.

How many more RIPs will we see? Wow, this is devastating for the fans and for the Stones. RIP Ian and condolences to the family. Austin, TX will surely miss him.

OH NO, Mac.
How much I loved your hammond & wurli.
RIP & already met Kim again?

Just after 14 ON FIRE TOUR end, Bobby's gone, and then Mac...
It's too hard for Stones & all the fans.

R.I.P Mac. Just listened to The Faces Long Player, so sad to hear Mac and Bobby playing together on Had Me A Real Good Time.

Considering he played great keyboards on MISS YOU that title today now has another meaning.

So sad. R.I.P. Mac. He played with The Stones the first time I saw them in 1978. A tremendous loss.

Fitting tribute here:

"Ian McLagan: the man who made two great bands greater

The keyboard player of the Small Faces and the Faces was a man who could bring whatever colour a song needed, and make it soar"

That was a nice reading and the lead was straight to the point. Thanks for sharing, Beast!

Thoughts and prayers to Mac's friends and families.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but wow I wish Rod had bagged those awful Songbook records and done a proper Faces reunion w Mac, Woody and Jones. Seems like every time he was asked about it, he'd say "we will get to it eventually".

Great guy, fantastic story teller, and super musician. This one comes as quite a shock with it being a second blow after the news of Bobby Keys. Saw him a while back and got to talk with him after his show. Warm, friendly, and very funny. Almost made me feel like I was a long time friend. I'm sure he had that same effect on everyone he crossed paths with. This photo taken at that show means a whole lot more now:

As I was talking today with some friends about Mac's passing, I think I've never seen one single pic of him with his fans on which he's not smiling. A friend of mine got to meet him on late 80's or early 90's, and he told me the same. This is truly a great loss. Thanks for posting that pic, mighty stork. You'll surely have some great memories from this meeting with Mac.

I hope Stewart's feeling really good about using The Faces as a way of generating publicity for his latest release for the last 20 years.I particularly liked his excuse that the Stones had to stop touring before The Faces could reform. As if he wasn't going to do any more solo tours!

Absolutely awful, so sad. First Bobby Keys and now Ian McLagan. He was such a great player and a great character, one of those musicians whose contribution goes far beyond what they actually wrote and played - he was just an everpresent in the musical tradition we all love so much, and the dude's talent, personality and his sense of humour really summed up rock and roll at its best. This is too much too soon. RIP.

Mac was a consummate team player. If I were hiring a keyboard player, he'd be my first choice.

That's twice in five months where I had tickets to see someone who died before the show. The other was Johnny Winter.

RIO Mac. What a year. Great musicians passed away. Bobby Womack, Jack Bruce, Bobby Keys, Ian McLagan. And let's not forget L'Wren.

I will never forget seeing Rod Stewart and Faces on their final tour - I was just in awe watching these guys - Rod, Ronnie, Kenny, Mac, Tetsu and Jesse Ed Davis (on second guitar). They just looked like rock stars. I loved Mac the most.

Oh God. Just woke up and heard this news. Very very sad news. What a shitty week. Ian, God bless you mate. At least you'll be with your Kim again.

Thank you for all the great music and sorry for being rude to you that time you popped into Harlequin Records, Richmond back in summer 75.

Today nothing else matters but playing Faces and Small Faces records.
