I am quite a fan of Bubblegum pop from the late 60's. Not particularly embarrassed about it, just love listening to it.
Brings back tons of memories!

I'm never embarassed about my musical tastes, but I used to be. Back in the mid-late 80s, disco had become a sort of bad haircut. When people would come over, I would actually put my Chic, Heatwave albums in a closet. How stupid is that? But I loved that stuff...and proud to say it now.
Otherwise, I love pop. I don't think you should ever be embarassed about loving 50s-70s pop, no matter how shmaltzy or cheesy, because it was of a time.
But if I had to have a 'guilty pleasure', I would probably say, all of Phil Collins/Genesis hits from 80-85..
Oh, and I loved that Milli Vanilli song, Blame it on the Rain, before I knew the true store.

Ok - I love this song and if removed from this board so be it....

ELO songs such as 'Sweet Talkin' Woman' and 'Livin' Thing.'

Sweet Talking Woman is not Bubble Gum. It's a great song such as Hungry Heart. Dancing Queen also falls in this thought process. Silly Love Song has one of the best bass lines ever created.

Chewing Gum songs include one I posted and songs such as "Let's Hang on" etc...

Pretty sure the lyric is "You are my candy girl", not that it changes any potential interpretation of the meaning.

As far as meaning goes, this is from the Songfacts site:

The Songfacts staff wondered if the lyrics contained some sexual innuendo. Toni Wine set us straight: "'Give me some sugar' is a very old-fashioned saying. It can refer to people kissing each other, that's sugar. Dogs licking you, that's 'Gimme some sugar.' Sugar is just a form of love."

Although I've no doubt the potential double entendre of the tune contributed to it's being the #1 song of 1969 in the US. It beat out songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Jackson 5, Elvis Presley, David Bowie, and Stevie Wonder.

And, after all, the song is called "Sugar Sugar." So 'candy' is going to be in it regardless of the sexual innuendo. I don't think it was intended for the song to be dirty. It's sort of like the song "Hooked on a Feeling (high on believing)" implied to be about heroine addiction but actually a stretch.

So there you have it: there can be a huge difference between studio versions and what you hear in concerts...for all sorts of reasons.

I rarely admit that i have all of Queen's records. But the one that would shock my friends is the song Tripping by Robbie Williams, i love that song!

The Some Girls album and onwards at that time. But when it comes to songwriting and craftsmanship I liked ABBA more already.
