If you've got some time to reflect (or know of a site where its already been done) I'd like to compile a giant list of every band/act that has had the honor of opening up for the Stones...

- George Thorogood
- No Doubt
- Johnny Lang
- Blues Traveler
- Prince
- The Pretenders
- The Hives
- Smashing Pumpkins

So who else...?

Drake

Black Crowes
Dan Reed
Gun
The Darkness
Tim Burgess
Cooper Temple Clause (i think in Ireland?)

but the best and the least likely to be asked back has to be AC/DC

who are far too good to open for ANYBODY as the Stones found out

D.C., December 1981- It was either Bobby Womack or Gary "U.S" Bonds...I'm not sure, that was a LONG time ago. Can anyone clear this up? Thanks.

Heh! Heh! indeed ... but cop this one.

Opening act for Stones, Melbourne 1973 was Australian progressive rock act Madder Lake, who had a hit around that time with a song called 12 Pound Toothbrush.

To me, the Licks tour seemed to be the first time The Stones really strived to get some decent, popular and credible opening acts, especially in Europe and the UK.

Let's hope for more of the same this time round. They have the right idea by getting Beck to open, but have let themselves down with Black Eyed Peas and Maroon 5. It's kind of the equivalent of No Doubt and Shaggy on the Licks US leg.

Despite some fine opening acts, I was very disappointed with who I saw last time around. The Pretenders in the States, The Cranberries in Germany and bloody Starsailor and Feeder in England. My dad got to see Primal Scream!

I kept thinking to myself, If only I could've seen Tim Burgess, Cooper Temple Clause or EVAN The Thrills, it would of been better than the tripe I got.

trust me Al

Cooper Temple & The Thrills weren't better than the tripe you got

they were bloody awful. nearly as bad as they are on record

Ah yes, Van Halen, the real Van Halen with David Lee Roth.

Really? I quite like what I've heard from The Cooper Temple Clause. In all honesty, The Thrills I can take or leave. Loved their debut album at the time, but they'd never get a spin on my hi-fi now.

Shawn 20, my thoughts exactly! The Mighty VH opened for them in 78 in New Orleans and 81 in Orlando (back cover of Diver Down). Not sure if they opened any other shows for them.

Also, I think the Stones would invite AC/DC to open for them again. I think they had a great time together, especially when Angus and Malcolm joined them for Rock Me Baby. Stones are probably the only band AC/DC would consider opening for.
