Which is the ultimative live song ?
Posted by: salar ()

Hi,
This bord is discussing about which songs the Stones should play or should leave........after all it`s all up to taste.
More or less warehorses...more ore less obscure songs...more or less new songs and so on ..
But what do you think is the one and only song which the Stones have to play at each show ?
Which is the one and only song making a bad show to a good one, making a good show to a super one ?
Which is the one and only song making an quality improvement of the show ?
Which is the one and only song you feel dissapointed when the Stones don`t play it at your show ?

To me, there is no doubt about it, the one and only live song is:
MIDNIGHT RAMBLER !!!....because this song has got all the Rolling Stones are about, because.....ah, forget it..it`s hard to explaine...
but I never want to miss these killer 10 minutes in which the Stones deliver MR and send me to heaven.

What do you think ?
What is your all time favorite live song ?

See you on the tour
Regards
salar

Yes, MR. I saw Rooster at SDF Paris and didn't think it was the most exciting live song - nice to hear though.

Its not everyday you see so many agree like this but this does have to be Midnight Rambler.

You get Mick playing and harmonica, its climatic and brings the crowd on a bluesy roller coaster.

If you've seen too many shows it becomes a bit old, but if you go to your first Stones show, how can it not be Brown Sugar, with all those "yeah, yeah, yeah, whooooooos"

Love MR though

Midnight Rambler. There is no better live song by ANY rock group. It has everything in it that makes for a live classic.

Midnight Rambler...on the Main Stage. It's by far the best LIVE song especially in an arena setting.

Definitely "Midnight Rambler" from the Ya-Ya's album, which I got to see them do it live those 2 nights (Nov 27th and 28th, 1969.) There is still a debate over whether that album was totally made at Madison Square Gardens; one show on 11/27 and 2 shows on 11/28. After those shows they went to Boston and many people feel that Ya-Ya's is a combination of the NYC and the Boston shows.

Shortly after Boston (early December '69) was Altamont, and although I was not there, I have seen the video/documentary many times over the years. The Stones got the bad rap for that, yet it was the Grateful Dead who hired the Hells Angels to be security for that night. Nothing has ever been the same since.

Start Me Up and Brown Sugar

Long songs allow the Stones room to jam and play off of each other (with the possible exception of Miss You whose endings post 1981/82 have been lousy).
Also, I think Mick ups it more than a notch when he can act out the songs character. So, Midnight Rambler, Out of Control, and Can't You Hear Me Knocking...

Midnight rambler .Not a single doubt about it!
It's a pure jam session,a blues improvisation lead by Keith (he's got to focus and can't afford to pose).
If somebody asks me to synthetise the RS 'music in one song it would be MR.
