Quite simple.... Swans in Western Australia (in the SW corner) are Black Swans - the river is named after the swans.
There are many of them, many live on the river.
For folk familiar with the more common white swans, the black ones are very different in nature. White ones are grumpy aggressive animals to be avoided. Black ones are much milder in temperament - but still be a bit careful around them.
