TOTTA DEAD

Mick Taylor-friend & Stones-coverer Torsten Totta Näslund
died this Sunday morning from a disease which he did suffer from
for some years.

He was 60 years old & in my subjectice judgement one of
the greatest blues and rock singers in Europe.

Ronnie toured Scandinavia with Totta's Blues Band in 1988.

Yeay, Erik, forgot that: Ronnie´s friend, too.
The Gabriel-Q is off my horizon.

But in Nationalteatern, Tottas band circa 1973-1980,
the Stones influences were at times very obvious.
Rec. Livet är en fest, Barn av vår tid and Rövarkungens ö.
The former once qualified in a public poll of Best Rock Albums In The World;
in the US.

It's a Sad Day, he was one of the most great blues singers ever in my opinion.
I had the pleasure to listen to him and his band in 2003. They played at a local
club just north of Halmstad. A very nice place called Gostas Café in Steninge.

In the middle of the concert he said and I qoute: "You know later this summer (2003) there is a band called The Rolling Stones which will visit Stockholm and play three gigs there. Therefore I'd like to play a couple of tribute songs written by them. Then he started "No expectations" which was one of the greatest versions I've heard. The second song was an unforgetteable version of Angie!

It's sad that he is dead! May he always be remembered with grace!

At first glance I thought this was a thread about TOTA - Tour of the Americas 1975.

Ville , I understand he toured partly with Taylor...
They shared an obsession for "No Expectations".
...But I also learned his connection with Ronnie was much much deeper
and stronger... In fact Tottas Blues Band was Ron Wood´s tour band
(- anyone knows more on this... ?)
and that Woody made Totta restart his band.

Totta was a mean bastard, an early skin back in Köpmanholmen during
the sixties. He was born in Sandviken, but came early to Nätra Parish, which is
20 km South from Örnsköldsvik municipality and town. He had his heart in
my county Ångermanland.

I´m, afraid I followed Totta better in the late 70´s,
just before I got more into
punk rock and heavy metal. But I met him and Dageby lots of times,
and I´ve arranged gigs with both of them & Nationalteatern
(during years 1980-1983).

Scandinavian shows in 88.
Ronnie toured with Bo Diddley in the US, Europe and Japan in 87/88.

I had never listened to him, just knew his name from articles but I never bothered to even listen to him. Then I downloaded No Expectations from the 73 tour (Stones) and found Tottas version and downloaded tha one too. I listened to it and then read the new at Expressen.se. Talk about coincidence.

I saw Nationalteatern in Østersund a couple of years ago - a very good gig I think! But I can´t quite remember who was there - was Totta on stage - do you swedes know?

As I got it, he hasnt been involved in all the Nationalteatern reunions;
which then would be a contradiction, like Stones without Jagger.
I see in Aftonbladet, tabloid but at times trustworthy, that he was
in at the 1996 reunion (tour?).

- I also welcome more initiated voices on this köpmanholmish blues dude!

...Anyhow, seeing & hearing Nationalteatern at Skulefestivalen 2nd of July becomes more interesting now. The main man after Totta, Ulf Dageby, would correspond with Keith (minus the H) if metaphors should be drawn a little further:

Pic from Expressen

He (Dageby* ) can give us a good rock'n'roll show (and on Friday the 1st of July we have Stones-/Jagger-mocker Stefan Sundström) and ol´ Jimi-jammer Kenny Håkansson with his Kebnekajse, reunited for the first time since 1976...).
